Resort or Ski Area: Loon Mountain

Conditions: MPP, GPP

Trip Report:
Wanted to head up Sat morning, got in the truck and rolled down the block.. clutch pedal stayed down.... Spent the morning getting the wheels towed, almost fixed, and finding alternate transportation to the mtn... Got up to loon around 3:30... could have squeeked in one or two runs on lift service, but opted for plan B... short hike in the back yard...
skinned up a south peak run until my alarm clock that sunset was nearing went off... hit snooze and got 10 more minutes of elevation.... ski'd down, hitting a few rocks, numerous waterbars and streams, but some good turns in on the settled 8" of snow from last weds... seemed about 6" natural powder base on top of grass/rocks/dirt....

Oh yea, this trip report is about Sunday... Woke up pretty early and got to the mountain around 8:15... headed up Kanq quad, did a run down lower picked to start... these were my first turns of the year carving up with my new snowboard -- after about 20 turns started to really push the boards limits and my knowledge of remembering how far I could lean over on a turn and wiped out -- conditions were in general pretty great though for this time of year, i think mostly groomed out, manmade packed powder... some of the sides of trails looked like stale natural leftovers --but on more than one occasion I was wrong about that...

Hit every open lift and trail at least twice, flying fox/picked rock probably my favorites of the day... pretty great snow conditions all around the mountain -- usual spots on the trails got a bit icy by the end of my day... started snowing around 2, and headed towards the car for a crappy drive home... 2 hour trip took 4, lots of cars off the road... snow report says they got 4 more last eve --

Next weekend theyll probably have lower boss, basin st, rampasture open..... they went from 0-45 pretty well and if the weather cooperates they'll come close to meeting their goal of near full operation by xmas...
