Resort or Ski Area: Loon

Conditions: Light Snow / Packed Powder, Machined Groomed, Death Cookies, Dirty Snow, Kitchen sink

Trip Report:

Seeing today was Demo Day at loon I made my second trip to loon the second trip of the season. Being that I was here a few weeks before, I was pleased to see that they have made some substantial progress in trail count. For the most part, the conditions were very good for what they had to work with. All said, it was a great day on the snow and the crowds were non-existent especially at North Peak. They were blowing snow like crazy on Walking Boss, and Flume... Walking Boss Although 7 brothers really needs to be resurfaced, dirty snow galore! Rampasture and lower picked rock skied very well.

As I said because it was demo day I left my Salomon Tornados at home and decided to fork over the $5 to demo a bunch of skis! As for the demos, I tried Salomon BBR - wasn't a fan of the binding being mounted too far to the back of the ski.. It skied a little wierd, it wasn't bad though.. But hell it was butt ugly! Next up was the Atomic Crimson Ti ... I fell in love with these skis big time. I want these! After that I had some head... well Head X-Shape MTX PR , not a bad ski wasn't a big fan and last were some K2's... Solid ski overall. All in all a great day on the snow and a fun day demoing!

The trail count should really explode there this week now that cold weather has arrived. I wonder when they'll get the new trails (Twitcher and Jobber) over on south peak open.

Going to Loon tomorrow. I originally planned on going today, but am hoping the extra day after the warm weather and rain will help them resurface the conditions.

Loon really has been aggressive with their new snowmaking equipment it seems. I think only Killington has more open acres than them. They appear to have more open than Sunday River right now

They should be able to make a ton of nice dry snow tonight. The weather conditions for snowmaking look excellent there.
