MTN. Loon mountain
Date Sat Feb 3rd
Condtions. Powder on 1/2 the mountain PP the other 1/2
Sunny a little Windy By far the best Day of the year.
Friday night the ride out of B-town was long event filled Ride. Many cars off the road from Concord north. I rolled in around 9.30. Long Ride almost 4 hours out of Bost. I needed 4 wheel drive From Tilton North.
Snowed until 7.15 in the morning on Sat with a pretty good burst right at the end. Loon reported 8 inches. I would say that was about right.
I got to the mountain and started to boot up right around 8 my son had the fever and said see ya Dad. ( A proud moment I admit... I missed the couple runs we get before his program starts, but very cool)
I was on the lift at 8.07 to be exact. I took the Kanc quad up to the top and headed over to Picaroon. I saw it was ungroomed and I had great fun tracks. Ow all powder.
I grabbed a ride up the Little sisters tripple. The Gondi had a line at 8.20 already. I went over to the North peak to get a shot on Upper and Lower Flume.( Flume had seeded bumbs a comp taking place.) I really thought Flume was better last week even with the new snow. I then Went to upper Walking boss. Nice soft snow and a strong base had been made during the week. That was fine. Lower Boss was just fantastic. Enough snow to make the spring nice on that.
I took the Quad up again. I got a tip only two tracks on Lower speak easy. I took Sunset (Which know had snow on it. Alot made during the week and it needed it.) to Bear Claw extension, That is getting wider. Then took upper speak easy and had powder on the sides. Lower Speak Easy still was in a powder state. I did not share the tip.;-)
I took the Kanc back up and headed to the East Basin. Time for A street. They dropped the ropes on Tripple trouble and the gang came out. I stayed away. I like my boards.
Many were having a ball. There was 6 inches of snow to start on the trail and the 8 more made it doable for some. Back to Angel street that was bit scratchy actually on the upper part, but the lower part was sweet. Next run I tried the same run finishing with Basin street, powder on side. Cross cut was ungromed and a fun wild ride.
I headed back up for Picked rock. The very upper part had powder on the side. I did a few laps on that. (The best snow of the year) I then moved over to Flying fox and hit cross cut again. They finally seemed to have enough snow on Flying fox to keep her in good shape for a while.
At this point I headed back to the Kank Quad. The west Basin did not get Groomed. I skied Lower North Star and Rampasture and Lower Speak easy. Speak easy know had nice soft snow, but no poweder. Rampasture and Lower North Star had some areas for new tracks.
I headed back up the the East Basin I saw Moose in Line and had a voice mail from him by the time I ran into he and his bride,. Lunch was set. The line was long around 10.45 the only time I had a long line anywhere other than the Kanc quad all day and the Gondola that I avoid anyway. About 45 min of crowding and the rest was free sailing,
Back to picked rock again, and a couple on bear claw my legs were getting tired. I took blue ox to the bottom around 11.30 and it had ungroomed snow and freshies all over the place.
I met Moose and our Wives and my daughter for a lunch break. I left after a bit and let them hang out. I went back out and Started the same process as the morning kind of over again. Around 2.30 I called it a day. I went in took my daughter from my wife(princess only did a couple of runs) and let her do a few turns and my son showed up so she got a run in with him also.
Best snow of the year. Glad they left part of it ungroomed. Its about time we had winter big time.
Crowds were not real big, just at peak time. Word I got was 2 more weeks of snow making. Everything going to get hit one more time. Then they start cutting and working on South Mountain. Looks like its real folks.
