As K-Mart says, the woods were the goods. Trails were great packed powder/edgeable crust and everything was open.
Loon's marked woods were heavily tracked out and sucked. Ripsaw was ok, a little scrapy (ok, extremely scrapy) on Saturday, a lot better on sunday. Damn, that thing is steep though. Great run with some fun rollers on the runout. Sunday I followed some tracks into the off-trail woods. And I found heaven. Most of the woods were untracked, with about 15" (skiing boot to knee deep) left over from last week's storm. Almost everyone who went in followed the traverse and went into a lovely mogul field. I stayed to the side and wallowed in pow.
Lift lines were pretty much nonexistent all weekend.
This guy was cool.
Gondola was about 15 minutes in the singles line. Bluebird both days.
Freakin' cold on sunday (-5 in the car on the way up, 15 below sunday night). I skied both days with the helmet cam and will have footage as soon as I figure out how to work with AVI on a mac. The cam was a great conversation starter though. Everyone on every lift asked about it.
I poached this section of lift line on the last two runs of the day. Knee deep fluff.
Find the skier...
Snow snake.
Never had a bad day at Loon.
