Wrong

Cannon was in great shape this weekend!Bigtime buffed out cord!Surprize to me the recovery Cannon made.Snowmaking has been nonstop all over the mt.Biggest surprize was the lack of crowds yesterday. We never really had a line more than a minute anywhere. This is why I love this place. On the other hand I bet Loon was a Zoo.

I drove past Bretton Woods and Cannon on Sunday between 8 and 9 in the morning. The car thermometer read 4°F. That definitely keeps people away from Cannon! BW still had a steady stream of arrivals, though.

Driving past Cannon en route to Jay this weekend, I noticed the snow guns going strong. Cannon is putting a lot of money out there for snow making this year. I have only skied there once and can only judge based on visuals of the mountain and snow reports but it seems like they really stepped up to the plate this year.

From what I recall, everyone blows until about Feb 1st, then they cut way back or stop completely.

Cannon has been pretty stingy in the snowmaking department in the past. I do not have historical data on when they cut off snow making, but I do know they have been more aggressive this year.

If their is enough snow to ski Mittersill then go to Cannon!!!!

If their plans to build a lift on Mittersill goes through this summer then this season might be you last chance to ski Mittersill as a back country mountain. So hit Cannon as much as you can while you can.

I have not heard of any plans to install a lift at Mittersill this summer. This planned expansion is more than a dozen years old. They certainly want to move on it, but no firm plans yet. That said, certainly a good plan to ski there as much as possible before they inevitably ruin that gem in the name of so called progress.

Steve, your right on the money.I've noticed a big difference this year.Usually after a thaw they might resurface main routes and shut down. They have been making snow everywhere non-stop.Pretty impressed.I have a freind Allen who is on snowmaking and he moved the tower guns on Zoomer to make snow under the lift and to the Rocket side of Zoomer.Never seen them do that before.Right now they are making on Turnpike and headed over to to the Tuckerbrook area. They even pulled hoses through the woods a couple weeks ago to Taft!Yup,Taft is covered great even after the huge Cannon thaw.I heard they might even pull hoses through the woods to make snow on Pauly's.That would be sooo cool!

Taft and maybe Paulie's, huh? Cool. At least get a base down and then let it stay natural. I love those trails natural but having a base down, especially over the rock bands on Taft, would really improve longevity and good skiing on those trails. The troughs on the center of Taft almost always scrape down to rock only a few days after a storm. I think it says something when I haven't even skied at Cannon in well over a month and I can still notice the big bump. Wonder how much of that is due to the GM? Or perhaps they didn't need to blow much in December so the coffers are still carrying funds? Perhaps the state decided to smarten up and given the mountain what it needs to be successful.

All your favorite rocks on Taft are covered well. Not sure if it's the GM,the state or the great snow season that accounts for the upgrade.I think it's all 3.
