I know some folks accuse us of shilling for places like Sugarbush and Sugarloaf, but I have to say that the Mad River Valley is quite arguably the best region in the Northeast for skiing. Where else are you going to find that quantity and caliber of skiing within 6 linear miles? The MRV seemed to be in the bullseye for heavy snow this year as well.

I was lucky enough to get in 4 days at Sugarbush and 2 days at Mad River Glen. 4 out of 6 of those days were my season's top four and a couple of those days were quite possibly my best ever. Here are a few reasons why:

Thank you MRV!

Geez people. Stop busting the guys stones. The footage Greg has brought back from MRG has provided some real stoke for this scrub.

So Mr. Shill, are you saying that your days at Jay, Stowe, Burke, and Killington couldn't compare to MRV? ;)

I've skied Killington a fair amount. Good ski area and it doesn't deserve the trashing it gets, but it can't hold a candle to either SB or MRG individually, not to mention when you consider them as one ski region.

I've never skied Stowe so I can't comment there. Awesome mountain, I'd imagine. So is Sugarloaf for that matter, but I don't think that even the mighty Loaf can surpass the SB/MRG combo.

Never skied Jay either. Again, I'm sure it's awesome and would love to get up there. However, I can get to the MRV easily in 4 hours. That's big for me considering my ski outings need to be pre-planned and as efficient as possible. Tough to get out as it is with two little ones at home...

Burke? I'm sure it's a great mountain. It's definitely still on the to-do list. However, I honestly can't say that I've ever heard anyone put it above MRG or SB...

Easy big guy, just busting your chops :) After skiing MRG Saturday, I said to V "Can you imagine if they connected MRG to Mt. Ellen the way that Ellen connects to LP, it would be an unbeatable combo!" Her response "It might ruin MRG"

When people ask me what is your favorite Eastern ski area? My first response is 'I don't have one.' and then I think of where I ski the most and answer Sugarbush. Sugarbush is in my top five in the East and I ski there the most because of access, conditions and I almost always have a good time there (wind holds excepted).

I agree Greg. Thursday and Friday at the Bush and MRG have now put me over the top as my best season ever! And there's more to come..................
I have skied Jay, Stowe, and Killington. They are great hills. But my East rankings would have to be 1-5 Sugarbush, MRG, Stowe, Killington, Jay. Loaf and River are good in Maine, and Wildcat and Cannon in NH in the top ten, and I must throw in Magic and then Mt. Snow for a runner-up prize.

Nah, the MRV sucks. I don't know why anyone would want to go there. They should definitely head for K-Mart or Stowe instead...

Speak for yourself.

I've seen them mentioned as on similar par.

I think that the two or three big rivals in VT for regions are:

Killington-Pico
Mad River Valley
The Southern Crew (Manchester, VT area...Magic, Stratton, Bromley, and maybe Snow).

Other areas fill in the cracks (Jay, Burke, Bolton, Okemo, etc).

If that makes sense....

Greg: You're hired! (and you're welcome!)

Thanks Susan! I expect full health coverage and 12 weeks of vacation time. ;)

Thanks also to Win, JJ, Jeremy, Ryan, Eric, Michael & Melinda. The MRV is good people too.

Actually makes a lot of sense, just not sure if the Southern crew should be thrown into the mix and Stowe makes for good filler :)

Call me biased - Sugarbush is my "home mountain" - I have to agree with Greg that the Mad River Valley is the top ski area in the Northeast. Lincoln Peak, Mt Ellen and Mad River Glen are three top mountains that combined with the Mad River Valley atmosphere provide a setting that is unique among the many skiing options in the Northeast.

4/7/2007....at the 'Bush

I've already drank the Kool-Aid....and it gives me strength in SB's trees....

Easy to forget sometimes how much great skiing there is.....all over New England.
