Clearly, I can't talk about terrain in the MRV vs other areas. But I can bring notice to the one post (Greg's) that spoke about the people of the MRV. Part of the lure and love is the package in which it comes. The sense of community, warm welcome, historic architecture, covered bridges, no stop lights, chains, etc. It's about our respect for our community and its natural resources like the Mad River, the open farm meadows, shopping and eating locally, helping a neighbor in need. It's balancing economy with ecology. The "vibe". Oh, and I hear the winter recreation is pretty darned good!

In honor of Eric's willingness to allow snowboarding at MRG on April !st this year, we are lending him all five of our compressors and 1,900 hydrants and snow guns next April 1st to be a good neighbor. However, he will have to assess the members for the GMP bill. If anyone wants to kick in NOSKI is setting up a special 4/1 fund!

We first hit the MRV 2 years ago. Sugarbush is the perfect resort for my wife and me. It's the one place we both really love. The area is so big and spread out like no other resort we've been to. We hit MRG one day that year, but only for a half a day. Didn't get the full experience of it, but could tell it is a special place.
This year we got to return to SB on the last day of our trip. It was like returning home, even though we had only skied there 5 other days.
We hit Stowe the day before the Bush and I can see why people rave about it. One thing I did notice is that some people are stuck on one resort. People tend to find a place they like and that's where they go. We try to check out new places every year. Our to do list includes Smuggs, Pico, maybe Jay and Bolton. Other mountains have their special feel, (Burke, Sugarloaf, Cannon, Whiteface, Wildcat). But for our money the Bush is the most enjoyable place we've been to so far.

Yes I agree it is a good thread. My wife and I own a condo at Mount Snow but we will be selling within the next 5-10 years and getting a house in the MRV. That is our favorite part of Vermont and we want to retire in that area. Right now we like the short drives to Mount Snow.

I've never skied Stowe so I can't comment there. Awesome mountain, I'd imagine. So is Sugarloaf for that matter, but I don't think that even the mighty Loaf can surpass the SB/MRG combo.

Stowe is definitely on par with Sugarbush (or better). I actually haven't skied MRG yet. As much as I absolutely love the place, Sugarloaf just doesn't get enough freekin' snow. If that place got as much snow as northern Vermont it would be the best place in the east hands down.

Yes it is true, but you have to buy your Mad Card and sign your kiddies up by October 15th!!!
Do it online at www.madriverglen.com
Sorry for the overt marketing, but they don't give me too much of a bidget to work with here.
That's how we keep the prices within the realm of reality! Looks like snow this weekend. Yippppeeee!!!

MRG will open any time after Thanksgiving weekend as soon as mother nature allows. The Single Chair project is coming along nicely and should be completed before the end of October. Check out construction pics on the website. The wire rope is going up today!.
