I just got all excited when I remembered that Magic is closed Tue-Wed-Thurs. The idea of potentially three days of accumulation, on slopes which are selectively groomed is very, very exciting.

I put a note in to Matt, to please include the 3-day accumulations into his Friday snow reports. Not only would it help us, but it will help him too.

I think they planned on opening mid-week for powder days. Though the thought is a good one as there are a decent number of 3/4 day operations out there...

What constitutes a powder day (in Magic's terms)? 10"? 6"?
My thinking is, you get 3" a day for 3 days (non-powder days), you got a powder day (not a faceshot, but still a good amount) of untracked on Friday.

OK, so a powder day is 6" of more from a single storm/event.

Billski, I will definitely start including the Tues-Thursday snow total from here on out. I would say we picked up about 2-3" of fluffly snow since Monday afternoon.

I can't believe I am writing this, but this is the quote from our groomer to the boss man this afternoon, "Tell Matt that everything is going to be groomed". :-o:-o

Now I highly doubt that and am anxiously awaiting getting in to work tomorrow and checking the sheet for the grooming report. It appears that for perhaps one day Magic might be a groomer skiers paradise8)

Thanks! Can you at least tell the man please keep the groomer out of the woods? ;)

Tell him I'll bring him a sandwich and a beer tonight. Maybe he'll come down with food poisoning 8)

Well, you know, if it's all groomed, and you promote that, well, the good news it might bring in some different busine$$.

If this helps, from an email Magic sent out this evening:

When the Holiday week came to a close last Monday we had some groomer issues, but we are happy to report that the groomer is back up and running and the grooming team has spent the past two days laying out corduroy mountain wide. Most of the East Side as well as Wizard (top to bottom) on the West Side have all been paid a visit from the groomer.

If they only hit Wizard on the west side that would leave lots ungroomed over there. Heart of Magician and Sorcerer were particularly great Monday and there's been no thaw/freeze since.

wait, FWIW the trail report has been updated as of today and shows plenty ungroomed, including some blues and a few greens on the east side.

I only wish I could get back out there tomorrow.

p.s. a handful of $29 tix left on Liftopia

Yeah, I guess I should clarify. Most if not all of what we can groom is/will be groomed. That still leaves trails like Slide, Magician, Witch, Red Line, Potter, Green Line, etc ungroomed. It would take a winch cat and/or a groomer with a death wish to tackle some of those.

Smart

Matt is very smart in his reporting. He needs to attract the mainstream. For the rest of us, the key is to read between the lines. That's true at all areas.

I always read the ski report with a trail map at the ready.

Which reminds me. Hey Matt, how are the woods?

Whether we/i like it or not sometimes the areas have to groom or risk losing the snow to the high winds.

The ones I have been in are in great shape. Snowing at a pretty good clip right now too.
