Magic Mtn. Wed. 3/21

In the wake of all the snow from the St. Patty's weekend storm, I'm taking a sick day from work on Wednesday 3/21 (tomorrow) to ski at Magic. The weather is supposed to be nice with temps in the mid to upper 30's and no wind. Magic is reporting 44 out of 48 trails open today and the snow should be great. Lift tickets are only $25.

Anyone interested in meeting up for some turns? I'm going regardless but would love to meet some AZers. It should be a great day to enjoy the current conditions on a nice sunny, early Spring Day. Remember this place has the best terrain in Southern Vermont. Aren't you tempted now?

So tempted. If the ski-itis bug didn't get me yesterday I might have considered this. Enjoy. Magic must be great right now.

I was there tuesday. Ropes on Witch-> Redline. Redline looked about as good as when we hit it post Vday. Even saw some new tracks on uppper RL. :-o Also ropes on Sorcerer (ROTD, better coverage than when we were there) and Slide of Hans (runner up for ROTD).

Twilight was open, but looked nasty from below. Broomstick open. Lucifer was open, but also very nasty. HOTM was good. Some funky grooming on Talisman- 2 swipes leaving some chunky stuff in the middle. Bumps left, some ungroomed right.

All in all holding up well, perhaps helped by the 'reserving' of some trails

I'll try to post a more detailed TR later but here is what I said over on a different thread.

"I was at Magic on Wednesday 3/21 & the conditions were great for late March in Southern VT. Good coverage and the snow was in good shape. That was 2 days ago, however, and since we've had a warm-up and some rain, I am sure conditions have deteriorated. Part of the reason I went on Wednesday was becasue I thought it would be the last day of "winter-like" conditions at Magic. Apparently I was correct.

As an example, on Wed. there were 42 trails open. Today there are 31 trails. Most of the more difficult runs (black diamonds & double blacks) have been closed. If you're interested in the groomer trails (blue square & green circle), you should be fine. On Wednesday, the groomer runs were in excellent shape."

I would add that Twilight Zone, Lucifer & Goniff's Glade were excellent. Goniff was the run of the day for me. I skied these in the afternoon & the snow had softened up so the steep bumps on these trails were very nice. They may have looked nasty from below but they were sweet.

Red Line also looked to be in great shape from the chair but I did not duck the rope on that one. Even the groomers had some nice soft snow on them (not corn snow). Since things have deteriorated since Wed, I would hit Magic this weekend if you want to get in one or more good days this late in the season (for Magic).
