Great day in Londonderry Saturday, with the club. Magic has done a super job with their snow making and new groomer. It's made all the difference in the east side. Even the west side has a sweet run down Talisman - ROTD. Upper wizzard got a lot more snow last night, blowing on Hocus Pocus. While it was but 6 runs, it was fun all day. The lodge was nearly full and lift lines extended to 25 skiers and boarders for some of the day!

From what I can tell, the Mts. all the way to Stowe don't have any better conditions than magic. They are building a rep from here on out.

jrmagic and sorcerer, couldn't reach you guys - hope you had fun.

You don't know unless you go!

Sounds... not bad!

I really hope we get some snow because I can't bring myself to go ski 6 runs. But Magic is where I'd like to be.

Totally understand your position but what we had skied well and today was much better today with another day of grooming and less traffic.

Bill I agree with Tali being ROTD. The race team did some training on the left center of the trail creating a generous amount of soft snow on the leftmost 15 feet which was almost hero snow. Still depressing seeing so much naked mountain though. We are at ground zero for natural snow and woods.

Was seriously considering taking you up on your event, but I wasn't going to do much for 6 trails and I have enough vochers for Waterville, so I ended up there on Sunday instead.

Appreciate the TR. I'm planning to be out there next week (2/14-15), so hopefully the few days of snow and cooler temps this week will only help. The Wintry mix for next Monday worries me, but it was forecasted for Rain as of this morning so wintry mix is an upgrade!

Even if they get a foot of snow from the upcoming storm, will the woods and natural trails still be out of play? I would expect so, but just want to make sure from a first hand report. I was there last year on March 2nd after a big dump on top of a thin base, woods were not too fun since I was hitting snow snakes on every turn. I have a voucher for Magic, but I want to wait until the trees are good to go, if possible.

It depends on the moisture content. If we get a foot of reasonably moist snow the low angle trees should be viable as will most trails. For some of the steeper woods we will need some bonus inches.

Consider the scenario early in January. Magic didn't get much more than 18" total, and that was on top of a tiny base. They were able to open everything except a few trails, and all the woods were open.

I'm guessing the woods up there have a few inches of crusty base at the moment. So if they get a foot I would think most of the mountain would be game. If they get anything over a foot I would think for sure.

I'm going to aim for Magic on Sunday or Monday(if they are open).. as I want to wait for them to drop all the ropes possible and see how the snow settles. Probably Berkshire East for the powder day on Saturday.

I guess I'll have to wait and see how the storm pans out and check these forums on Saturday to figure out where I'm going to hit. If they get two feet then I think I'll be at Magic for sure.
