vodka martini, shaken, not stirred, straight up with a twist.

Actually, all I know is that I don't like gin martinis that much. Only ever had one. My guess is that a vodka martini might not be bad, but I'd probably just go for vodka.

although martinis are traditionally made with gin, i prefer them with vodka. i like them shaken, straight up and with a (preferably) unstuffed olive (but, not dirty).

Ketel One vodka 2 parts, Martini & Rossi Extra Dry Vermouth 1 part. Ample olive juice (preferably from The Pickle Guy on Essex St in lower Manhattan)
Shaken in a cold metal shaker.
Poured into extremely cold martini glasses bought in a head shop on Main St in Breckenridge, CO.
Enjoyed with a smile. :)

I've typically seen martinis made with a 5 to 1 ratio (2.5 ounces booze, 0.5 ounces vermouth), but, to each his own.

I like to have a martini,
Two at the very most.
After three I'm under the table,
after four I'm under my host.

Who the hell asks for a stirred Martini, any ways? Stuck up snobs afraid of broken ice decreasing the quality of the likker? What ev, same purists that say you can't replace gin with vodka. Personally, I don't like gin or vermouth, so I go with a top quality vodka extra extra dry with a twist. Essentially, straight up chilled vodka, woot!

I prefer gin in my martinis! Regular Bombay on the rocks w/olives, skip the vermouth.

One martini, two martini, three martini, floor!

A Tangerey martini on the rocks is good with a couple olives..I like some of the girly martinis..One is called Electric Lemonade and it's Blue from Hypnotiq. Another one I like is called a Riviera Martini which has Bacardi Rum, Gray Goose, Pinapple Juice, and some sort of liquor with a caramel flavor. I would order Martini's more if they weren't $8-$12 each and didn't get me so wasted. I don't have a shaker or martini glasses so for now I just get Martinis at bars and restaurants and only occasinoally..

There was a time when I'd spend that kind of cash on mixed drinks without blinking 'cause the whole point was to booze up and partaaaay. Now, as an older and wiser 33-year old, with the number of times going out boozing drastically reduced, I prefer the beer. I'm of a constant sipper, so, if I have a glass in my hand, be it a martini or a beer, I'll drink from it, so having a strong cocktail doesn't help me reach my main drinking goals these days --- stretching out the night and remembering the next day what went on the night before.

(Translation: I'm now a lightweight.)

I prefer "in and out" martinis. Small amount of vermouth is put into glass and swished around to coat. Excess is poured out of glass. Fill the rest with premium gin and add two olives.

I try to pace myself myself as well..although I drink pretty often..I only get really shit-faced falling down blackout drunk a few times a year..Usually around the Holidays when high school friends are in town and the shots of various liquors go down..yet I never think about the consequences..

One day right around Christmas when I had work the next day..I met a few friends at the local bar. Everything started off well with a beer or two..then jello shots, jager shots, Southern Comfort shots..a chocolate cake shot..more beer..safety meeting in the alley..then I think a white russian and another shot. At some point I bought two college girls a shot and they wanted tequila and tequila on all that made me feel queesy but a Guinness helped settle my stomach. At closing time I staggered home..passed out..woke up to my alarm clock 4 hours later..walked 10-15 minutes to pick up my car at the bar..got a Sausage McMuffin and hash brown from McDonalds...and pushed around tombstones...I swear I was sweating straight booze for 5 hours..then by the time I got out of work..I was ready for more..

Vodka: Dirty w/ bleu cheese stuffed olive

Gin: Hendricks, dry with a slice of cucumber (preferably with a Stirrings Rose infusion wash of the glass, but Srirrings doesn't make it any more)

Shaken, in a frozen glass.

I may have mentioned this before but here it goes again.

I stopped drinking martinis when I realized that I was allergic to gin: Every time I drank it I would break out in handcuffs.

I'm slowly coming to this realization myself :( Although I'll likely "forget" about this realization in a couple of weeks when I have my 15 year college reunion and I get together with mutliple former drinking buddies ;)

As for my Martini's, Shaken, Vodka (Grey Goose or Ketel One are my favs), just a dash of Vermouth and sometime yes, sometimes no with the olive depending on my need to get the proper number of veggie servings that day ;) Oh yes, all the liquids need to be REALLY COLD for my martini enjoyment
