Seems like the mid atlantic and south are gettin more snow again. Is this aaverage yr for them or above average? I am jealous cause so far in ct and MA snow has been lousy.

No idea about the mid atlantic ski areas, but the meteorologist on our local CBS affiliate said last night that by the end of the weekend Washington DC will likely have received more snow than Portland Maine for the season. Extremely unusual! Hopefully the strom track shifts soon.

Lionel Hutz at FIS mentions that by the same time, Fairfax, VA will have received more snow than Burlington, VT.

Accuweather had an blog post about snow totals. This storm will put Philly and Baltimore over 300% of their yearly average.

This has been a stunning year for them - best in probably 10 yrs. Canaan Valley in WV has 134" & counting on the year; there has been more further south in the Snowshoe vicinity. Natural coverage is exceptional, even after the last washout. If it were not for a prior commitment to Vermont that I'm now kicking myself for, I'd be heading there this weekend!

FWIW Somehow I still cannot get myself to drive south to ski. It just doesn't seem right. Have heard that the drive to Snowshoe from this area is just long and horrible.

The ride to Snowshoe from ANYWHERE is horrible........or good if you like lots of steep winding mountain passes.

During the one winter season I was there, Sysco went through 9 different delivery drivers, all who quit because they couldn't handle the white knuckle mountain passes you have to go over to get there.

Wusses.

I recall driving some years back in practically whiteout conditions... the road I was on bisected a limestone quarry, and kind of got a little vague. I ended up driving up to a lime kiln without realizing it until I came upon the redhot glow of baking lime.

The worst part of winter driving are there are the towns that use coal waste to supplement the road salt. Turns your car black.

This is a very above average year in the mid-atlantic. Normally, here in Wilmington, De we get an average of 16 inches. This year already we've had 28 inches. This weekend while I'm heading to New Hampshire. Wilmington is going to get 12-18 inches (possilby more) of the white stuff. They are also, predicting another storm on Tuesday/Wednesday with a good snow total.

This year will rivial 1996 for top honors in the mid-atlantic.

......Yes, same for PA.
The Pocono's are getting screwed. Models this morning had snow coming right up to the mountains then fading away as if there was a great big wall there. Just proves what I've always thought that the Pocono's are more Northeast than Mid Atlantic.

Yes it sucks that Washington DC will most probably have a higher seasonal snow fall than most of southern New England for 2009/2010, so far at least. They may even be close to Southern Vermont so far this year!

Time to drive south and ski WV

Read the 2nd and 3rd posts in this thread. DC will be right up there with N. VT (non mountain division)
