Date(s) Hiked: 3-27-2007

Trails(s) Hiked: Imp Trail to North Carter Tr. to Carter Moriah Tr. to Carter Dome tr. to 19 Mile Brook Tr.

Total Distance: 12.1 miles, around 3800 ft elevation

Conditions: Really foggy and humid.

Special Required Equipment: Definitely snowshoes, maybe some kind of traction device if it gets below freezing.

Trip Report: Really, I don't have much to say about this hike, other than it is starting to fell like spring out there. The day started off warm and really humid, with about 200 feet of visibility through the fog. After a couple of minutes out there, I was pretty well soaked just from the moisture in the air and on the branches. Up on the ridge the wind was blowing pretty good, making the ridge walk at least a little more exciting than the otherwise wonderful views of fog would have allowed. Ambling across the ridge, I decided to take the Carter Dome tr. and 19 Mile Brook tr. back for a change of scenery. Hiking back along the trail I realized it was, wow, almost 9 years ago since I was last on this trail, on one of the last hikes with my uncle who I can thank for introducing me to the depravity of peak bagging. Doesn't feel like it was that long ago. But anyway, of course the clouds departed and the sun came out when I came off the mountain, and I had a boring walk along 16 back to my car.
44 and 45. 3 MORE TO GO!!!!

Have you decided what peak you are going to end on?

What peaks do you have remaining?

Also, how were the snow conditions? Mashed potato snow? was it frozen hard? sticky?

The snow was really wet and heavy, real corny I quess :spin: As the day progressed, the snow really softened and occasionally I would posthole through about foot, even with snowshoes on. Down low, there were even some bare spots already.

I still have Carrigain, Cabot and Moosilauke left, so either Carrigain or Moosilauke would be nice to finish on. I'm not making any set plans and I'll just wait and see how it plays out. Hopefully I'll be done soon if all goes well.
