FRANCONIA, New Hampshire -- Cannon Mountain will be playing host to the first Mojo Mountain Fest benefiting Copper Cannon Camp on October 4, 2008. Copper Cannon is a summer camp serving New Hampshire low-income youth with a free camp experience. Located in the White Mountains, Copper Cannon has just completed its 45th summer with over 400 youth from throughout the state in attendance.

The Mojo Mountain Fest will feature Dickey Betts, founding member of the Allman Brothers Band. Known as one of the most influential guitar players of all time, Betts has mastered a seamless style of lyrical, melody and rhythm. When hearing about Copper Cannon's mission, Betts discounted his usual concert fees.

Joining Dickey Betts and his band, Great Southern, will be The Commander Cody Band. Today The Commander Cody Band is closely knit with the legendary Commander Cody, George Frayne. The new edition of the band harks back to the instrumental virtuosity and spontaneity of the original band, and the response from critics and crowds has been overwhelmingly positive. As well, the Boston Horns will be adding their distinctive funkadelic sound to the event.

The Fest will benefit Copper Cannon Camp, one of the few not-for-profit summer camp programs in the country that underwrites 100% of each camper's tuition. Arriving at Copper Cannon for a breath of fresh air and a break from life at home, these children create memories that last a lifetime. For many campers, one week at Copper Cannon is a pivotal, life-changing experience.

Over 40 years ago, founder Hamilton Ford envisioned creating a place where children could enjoy the beauty of the White Mountains, regardless of race, gender, or financial status. Copper Cannon Camp's mission provides camping experiences to children whose financial means would not otherwise afford them this opportunity. Since 1963, when Ham's dream came to life, thousands of children from all over New Hampshire have enjoyed Copper Cannon's many programs and activities. Since 1969, Copper Cannon has been the major project for the New Hampshire Elks.

Proceeds from the event will be used to continue the mission of Copper Cannon Camp. Copper Cannon Camp is a 501(C)3. For more information or to purchase tickets go to www.coppercannon.org, or call Copper Cannon Camp at 603-823-8107 or 603-616-1010.
