The Monday Report: better wait folks. The front did not cross the NEK until early this morning, and that gave groomers very little time here at Burke. Anything ungroomed is deadly. Anything groomed is just a thin layer of holiday deathcookies. Bumps are not skiable.

We've lost Middle Fox's probably Ledges for a few days, and the glades for now. The ski report says they are open, but I am not venturing off the grooming...

I think that a couple nights of good grooming will set things up nicely for Wednesday through the weekend. Am crossing fingers for snow...and maybe a weekend snowstorm?

I can't imagine what everything looks like after all that rain then freeze. Was at Mt.Snow yesterday and it never stopped, not heavy but enough to soak you. Snow was good though, like spring.

Wildcat went from 45 to 7 trails. Must be becasue of the rain on top of snow forming all the crust. Doh! I am still hoping for a huge snowdump this Vacation so I can ski some powder soon!

Wildcat and the other North Conway areas were in pretty rough shape this morning. Hopefully given some tome to groom, most of the groomers will be better later in the week

Blue mountain was great this morning...the groomers worked their magic and everything was carvable and best of all there were no liftlines. Yesterdays rain and warmth is going to hurt Northeast ski areas this holiday week but that means less lines for all the diehards.

I was really looking forwards to skiing this week... any chance of snow in the forecast? All I want to ski is powder, woods, or moguls. I am just sick of skiing groomers; to me, they are just too boring.

I skied at Blue Mountain with my son last MLK weekend the day after a thaw and right after an artic cold front moved through. They made a ton of snow in a short period of time during the night and the skiing was brutally cold, but suprisingly good.

It looks like rain this weekend, or a mix going to rain. Hopefully the pattern changes in early January, back to what it was before. This is what I think, hope and pray will happen, especially in time for my Sugarloaf trip mid month.

At least we have a substantial base on most snowmaking trails this year.

Burlington forecast discussion:

THE EXPECTED MOVEMENT OF
SNOW BAND AND MARGINAL LAKE INSTABILITY WL PREVENT ADVISORY
CRITERIA SNOWFALL FROM BEING MEET. HOWEVER...GIVEN FLUFF FACTOR
AND SOME OROGRAPHIC ENHANCEMENT FROM DACKS/NORTHERN GREENS NEAR
JAY PEAK...A FEW LOCATIONS COULD REACH 4 TO 5 INCHES.

Not a good near term outlook:

THE
MAIN STORM TRACK WL CONT TO FEATURE MID/UPPER LVL TROF ACRS THE
INTER MOUNTAIN WEST...AND PIECES OF ENERGY EJECTING FROM THE
SOUTHERN PLAINS EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS ENERGY WL HELP TO FORM
AREAS OF LOW PRES...WHICH WL TRACK FROM THE PLAINS INTO THE GREAT
LAKES...PLACING US ON THE WARM SIDE OF EACH SYSTEM.
THEREFORE...EXPECT SOME MIX TO START CHANGING TO RAIN...THEN
FINISHING AS SNOW. THIS UNFAVORABLE TRACK FOR SNOW WL CONT INTO
THE FIRST PART OF THE NEW YEAR WITH LATEST TELE-CONNECTION
SUGGESTING ABOVE NORMAL TEMPS FOR THE NEXT 6 TO 10 DAYS.

Yep... And after seeing all of these great trip reports with mucho powder and conditions that looked like Mid February, it is kinda depressing in a way.

The one positive is that the snows so freaking fast..I haven't had wax on my skis in 3 days and it doesn't matter.

The issue was so little time for grooming after the temp fell. Ski patrol was NOT going to open anything in porcelain.

Bummer day, but I don't think anyone the ski industry in the NE had a good day today.

Was good to see Mike this morning.

Sunday River had the same problem today. There was very little open early. I spent the first two hours skiing the Little White Cap chair. Around 11:00 they started opening up more trails and lifts. It should be good tomorrow if anyones heading up.

Monday was a tough morning. A friend and I started at Wildcat, but it looked pretty tough early on. We checked Black, but almost nothing was happening there, so we packed it in for the day. Had to be home early for X-mas anyway.

There's nothing we can do to change the weather. Wildcat made an all out attempt to do the best they could with what mother nature left them. Kudos to the staff for being honest and upfront.
