Mt. Snow announced today that they will likely open the Sunbrook area this weekend. I love that side of the mountain - it provides another way to avoid the crowds (although the sunbrook quad can be a brutally slow ride)

From today's snow report:

We were going to wait for Christmas to give you a present, but we discussed it and decided to make it an early gift: we are planning to open Sunbrook this weekend. That’s right, we could be skiing and riding on all four mountain faces by mid-December.

Hopefully it will include Beartrap as well as Thanks Walt!:daffy:

I don't think they've started blowing snow on Beartrap yet, so that seems a bit unlikely. Even so, they've done a great job with opening terrain quickly, and with being upfront and honest with their customers.

no beartrap that I know of...

but, reports from those who recently hiked over there said it looked like every other chair was missing from the Sunbrook Quad. This was the plan to increase line speed, so let's hope this is true. That lift is the worst around...

There were indeed about 2 dozen chairs from the Sunbrook quad that were sitting in the main base area parking lot 2 weekends ago. If I could just find where I left my digi-cam card reader  I'd post a pic of them.

natural snow

If we manage to get 4-6 inches from Thursday's storm and a foot or so from Sunday's possiblle storm, maybe a lot more than just Thanks Walt will be ready for action. Last year Sunbrook didn't really get good till mid February.

i wasn't planning on hitting snow this year until i read about this on their website:

Au Natural is French for “Ain’t no metal or plastic in here.” Paralleling the Vermontster park, this little jib farm will feature only material made by the Earth itself: log slides, stump jibs, kickers, rollers, boulder bonks, rainbow tree slides. So pack some granola and get to know Mother Nature, by jibbing on her back.

Get to Au Natural by taking a left at the top of the Vermontster terrain park.

i'm really not a park rat but this park sounds awesome. see so many parks in vids that have natural features, really psyched when they open that park up.

An Ambassadore confirmed that this has been done. They're going to see how it works as the loading will be very fast. My fear is so many people will screw up , they'll have to stop the lift and the time savings will be wasted. Last week I saw a bunch of people screw up on the loading of the Grand Summit quad, usually kids and teens not paying attention.

With the projected line speeds they were talking after the chair removal, it won't be any a faster load than the rest of the fixed grip chairs(Discovery triple excluded), and likely real close to the amount of time you had before when you factor in the increased line speed of just under 1 foot per second to the increased spacing. The biggie will be can 4 folks shuffle on out to the loading board in time???

What will be real nice is getting up top about a minute quicker especially when the usual Northwest wind is blowing in your face on a cold day over that last open/exposed 1000+ feet of the ride

Awesome. Cross your fingers 4 can pack on quicker... that ride is brutal. Always wanted to take faster laps over there...
