Went with my wife to see Jeff Bokum on Saturday and get some new boots with the fitting done right. Awesome guy, great bootfitter, definitely worth the trip.
We didn't have a place booked so I called the Grand Summit on a whim. I was shocked when I found out a room with my AAA discount was only going to be $115. After tax and all, it would come out to about 130. I was with my wife (not my buddies) and figured what the hell...in two weeks the rooms going to double or triple, at least.
Check out the view from my room :
At 7:45, I put on my new boots, hopped over the railing with my skis and headed to the lift. Out of excitement I forgot to buckle my boots for the first run.
The guns were firing all day. What I didn't realize was that the permanent ones actually pivoted like a sprinkler. Conditions on the mountain were great. a few warm up runs on the main face and it was time for the North Face. TNF was ungroomed and empty. There were some icy spots but overall I was impressed with the November conditions. After three runs, I grew tired of TNF and figured I would make some loops on the Canyon Express. I had the seat to myself on every trip....I actually got a little lonely. The trails started to get crowded by noon and I called it a day. Overall it was a great first day out.
