Date(s) Skied: 12/12/09, 12/13/09
Resort or Ski Area: Mount Snow
Conditions: Packed powder - a bit crunchy in the ungroomed sections
Trip Report:
Sorry no pics. Had camera with me Saturday, but no one took the battery from the charger still back at the condo. Sunday, kids took the camera and then said they had so much fun, they forgot to pull it out and take some shots. Next time.
First time out this season. Started off on the Canyon chair and took a run down Snowdance. Sign at the top advised the best skiing was on the groomed stuff. Being doubting Thomases, we tried some of the ungroomed stuff. They were right. : ) Not a big fan of cordury but truly enjoyed our second run down Snowdance after a cat must have just gone thru (we hoped, heading for the North Face as rumor was they were trying to open Chute that afternoon). Beautiful, velvet texture that gave was nicely to our turns.
Canyon had nice loose stuff down skier's right to practice the tight turns.
Run of the day Saturday was Drifter. Odd shaped bumps were cut out with cliffs for launching off of. Two runs down and my legs were pretty well shot. Definitely need to drop some weight this season and get back in shape. Took a run down Long John to go check on the kids at Carinthia - wind was pretty brisk, serious brain freeze en route. Ended the day shortly after (1pm).
Sunday found Drifter a bit thin but still a lot of fun. Lifts seem to be having difficulty today - seemed like a lot of stopping. Skied over to Caranthia to stop the whining of the youngest (who had been left behind by older brothers) only to find that the high speed lift had stopped for quite a bit over there, resulting in a HUGE pileup at the bottom. 2 person lift was running but was also stopped. Lunch time and I'm stuck in the base area of Carinthia with no money and a jam packed lodge. And the sky opened up with a full force sleeting/snow assault. Hitched a ride back over to the Main Face and called it a day. Kids stayed out as the sleet turned to snow and accumulated to several inches by 2pm. Said it was a blast.
