Trip Report:
Beautiful day, yet depressing as well. Got up there around 10:30. Closest lift to where I usually park is the Canyon Quad so that's where I went first. Standard was awesome. Nice and soft, but not overly mashed potatoe like. Un Blanco Gulch was rocking with plenty of young rats. Mt. Snow has this crowd down pretty pat.
Taking the Yankee Clipper to the top I took a run down Upper Exhibition/Lodge which eventually merged into Standard. Very good snow there as well.
Came back up to the top wanting to go to North Face but the area was closed =( I wondered why. Tried Upper Canyon/Canyon. Really firm and no where near as good as the Lodges. Also took a bunch of runs on Deer Run/Long John which was actually quite pleasant. Took a detour down the trail to the Tumblewood triple for sh*ts and giggles, that was decent albeit short. After a while I saw a groomer coming down back to the bottom and wondered if that was why the North Face was closed. Got back up and it was back opened up. I went over to Chute and voila, fresh hero conduroy in dwindling light. I figured with the N. Face getting into the shade now with the wet snow someone felt like conditions were dangerous without a good groom. Anyway, it was great... this still one of the best runs open anywhere so far.
All in all a great day... but a few more like this or w/rain/fog and they are going to be done. Cover was getting very thin near the bottom.... Snowmaking crews were adjusting some tower guns on Lodge, maybe they expect a sudden drop, lol. The whole day I felt so bad for the mountains, they are just getting the piss beat out of them so far.
