Area skied: Mount Snow, Vermont
Date skied: February 1st from 12:45pm - 4:00pm
Surface conditions: Packed powder, hardpacked.
Weather: Cloudy and 32F
Warren and I got a late start to the day due to being a bit tired from skiing at Magic Mountain and Brattleboro Memorial Park. Leaving late had the advantage of empty roads on the way up while passing everyone going southbound on their way home.
We started the day skiing from Carinthia and into the Sunbrook area. We skied Little Dipper and One Small Step and since these are natural snow trails, I think it might have been the first time I have ever been on them. Conditions where firm in a few spots but mostly ice free.
Big Dipper was mostly firm in the center and soft and powdery on the edges. The steeper section near the Sunbrook quad had some soft packed powder moguls.
We made our way over to the North Face and skied down Oylmpic which being a natural snow trail was very ice fee with nice powder moguls. We skied The Trials and I think that was my best glade this year with awesome snow conditions. We liked the run so much we skied it twice.
Deer Run to Uncles was next and Uncles was a bit thin and scratchy, but it's a natural snow trail. Fantasticks Glade was next and was great fun except for some downed branches/limbs from the ice storm.
Next up was One More Time into The Boonies and the glade skiing was great and I got airborne in a few spots skiing the moguls between the trees. One More Time was very soft with alot of packed powder.
South Bowl was next and the snow was icy and skied off and not that thrilling of a run, but we skied down to Carinthia for one last run down Claim Jumper. The glade was good with large moguls and soft snow. There are some broken libs to navigate around, but not a big deal.
Overall we had a great afternoon skiing on mostly natural snow trails and glades. The snowcover is quite deep in most areas and Olympic is now my favorite run at Mount Snow.
