Trip Report:
Amazing spring day at Mount Snow. Not too often you can ski the trees in shorts and a t-shirt in April in southern VT.
Arrived at the mountain at 10:15 and skied to 4. Mid day, I had a burger and mountain dew at the grill on the deck for $9.75 which is about half of what they normally charge. Good crowd yesterday too.
On the main face, I hit Ledge, Exhibition, Ego Alley, Un Blanco Gulch, Uncles, Tramline, and South Bowl. Ledge is very narrow at this point and is probably finished off by now. Uncles has plenty of bare spots and grass skiing in some spots. Tramline is extremely narrow and also probably about done. South Bowl is in good shape. Upper Ex has a lot of bare spots too but I didn't hit the bumps halfway down. Ego still has amazing bumps in that middle section worth repeating plenty of times. Gulch's park was a little too mushy to really do much.
On the north face, I hit Chute, Freefall, Challenger, PDF, Epiphany, Plummet, and Ripcord. Chute was groomed and had nice snow and an amazing base. Challenger was ungroomed but nothing worth writing home about as far as bumps go. Still fun though and in good shape. Freefall had some great snow with small bumps every so often from all the traffic it got. PDF was a lot like Challenger. Epiphany was covered in debris and had plenty of bare spots and rocks. If you hate your skis it's a lot of fun and cool being able to ski trees this time of the year there. Committed had great bumps and the bumps on upper Ripcord before the headwall are just amazing. Ripcord is in awesome shape. The middle of the headwall is down to the ice but is edgeable enough to make controlled turns. Jaws and Olympic are closed.
That's about all... I'll be at AZ day next Sunday for their final day and my final day.
Photo 1: Ripcord from the bottom. Doesn't do the trail justice, but a good shot of the coverage.
Photo 2: Ripcord from above the headwall... you can tell how big the drop is from the 3 ants at the bottom.
Photo 3: "Some Walking Required" at the top of Uncles.
Photo 4: Shows the very narrow ribbon of snow on Tramline.
