This is odd especially when their sister resort to the north has unlimited snowmaking capacity and only uses a fraction of it.

Could this be a move to increase the potential sale price.

No hard facts here just a thought.

Wow. Interesting. I also thought that the talk about adding an HSQ and "extending the season" were interesting considering that ASC is broke.

At the moment the snowmaking is limited by water supply. In rough terms this means that they can cover about 1 trail in ideal conditions in a 24 hour period with enough snow to open it or three trails to resurface and can only do this for about 3 days and are effectivly out of water. With the somerset pipeline they will be limited by either compressor or pumping capacity. Meaning they won't have to shut down due to water and with the compressors/pumps of the past they will be able to open at least 3 trails in that 24 hour period.

Anyone who is local has observed them not making snow or stopping at times during good snowmaking weather and with less then ideal conditions. This was due to lack of water. Mount Snow has shown a commitement to making snow and providing a great product and the pipeline will help them do better.

Also planned with the pipeline is snowmaking on 100% of trails as they will have the water to do it. As for the lifts they do have a plan but I am not holding my breath waiting for it. Also i am hopeing to change their minds before it happens. The plan is for a six pack replacing the summit express with the summit express going to the north face. Wheras I would like to see hsg's on sunbrook and sundance, with snowmaking on all of sunbrook and Hop, Shoot out and Uncles before putting a high speed lift on the north face.

wow, i would never have guessed they were that limited in water supply. They do a very good job with what is available to them.

I certainly agree that moving the summit hsq to the north face shouldnt be a high priority. The capacity over there now is more then enough to handle the typical crowds, which in my experience, have always been rather light even when the place is packed overall. Personally, i like the chance to catch my breath on the fixed grip triples.
