They fired up the guns for the 1st time this year on Ripcord over the weekend, and per their FB page the rope dropped on Ripcord about lunchtime today! Woo Hoo! Can't wait for this weekend! :)

That is pretty impressive. I don't know if there's another major resort in the east that has opened a new trail so late in the season on man-made snow.

And this is as good a place as any to note that, about a month ago, Mount Snow totally redesigned its snow conditions page, which up till then had been extremely un-user-friendly. I don't know if they monitor this site, but that page had been severely (and justifiably) criticized on an earlier thread.

I'm very sure that there are regularly multiple members of the Mount Snow administration that pop by AZ and take a look at what's being said. They really seem to grasp the importance of online input via ski forums and social media

I love what I seen them do with the Hill, so much better now then when ASC owned the place.

Now they need to move those guns over to Plummet!! The North Face has been neglected all year so far!

I have an ASC Stock Certificate hanging in my condo in West Dover. It's right next to all the other vintage photos.

Unfortunately from a post on the Mount Snow Passholders site about a week ago, Ripcord (and Committed which takes you from the summit down to Ripcord) won't be getting any snowmaking attention this year. The snowmaking budget for the year is just about done, less some isolated touch up work if needed on a few core trails.

Given that Ripcord is slated to host the Gladeiator in early April and that it takes far less guns to open Ripcord than Plummet, the descision was made to not make snow on Plummet this year. Given that Mount Snow has already pumped way more water up the hill for snowmaking this year than last year and the realities of what it costs to get plummet open, the response from the passholders was one of basically, "that kind of stinks, but I totally understand given the weather this year". So for Plummet to open, we need some help from mother nature. And while there sure isn't much natural snow on it, what is there (and this comes from me having snowshoed on mainly closed natural snow trails up to the summit of Mount Snow yesterday because of wind hold situations) is quite solid and base worthy should mother nature decide to put some fluff on it.

It's kind of nice to have the management be very open and honest about why they're doing what they're doing, and seems to go a long way at keeping its core customers informed and generally happy

Screw the core customers, that's just spin! Stratton and Okemo managed to open all their snowmaking terrain despite the bad weather. If Snow wants to keep up with the big boys they better start producing and stop making excuses for cutting corners.

Damn. I was there on Saturday hoping it would open for Sunday. Just missed it by a couple of days.

Listen to you... lol. Do you have any idea the temperature difference that existed between the Valley (Mount Snow) and Rt 100 just to the North earlier this season? Those two mountains were pumping out McSludge (but at least they were making snow) when it was 40 degrees at the top of Mount Snow. Yeah, it wasn't fun to see mountains 20 miles away making snow while Mount Snow couldn't do a thing.

That said, neither Okemo or Stratton have anything as steep as Ripcord or Plummet and they require alot of snow. Plummet is now the only run not to receive snowmaking this year. Give them some slack.

I've skied the North Face just about every weekend. It's skiing well despite the lack of snow. I think they've done a fairly good job considering. They even let it bump up a few times. However, the freeze/thaw got the best of the moguls and they had to plow them down.

I really like Plummet. But you have three similar runs current open on TNF. The Ripper is unique.

Fondly,
D'oh

I suppose Mount Snow could have stopped resurfacing and left the ice and call it open then moved on and made snow on all her trails. But quality over quantity was the call made and keep what is open in good condition. Trail numbers were not as important as positive feedback.

Thanks for alll the questions you've answered for me this year (and in years past) d! Maybe if my family is as quick this coming Saturday as we were last Saturday, we'll get to share the 1st bubble with you again! :)

Hope so, I will be on the lookout. I expect there will be a few more than last weekend.

Upper Cannon just opened today and they are planning to make snow whenever possible for at least 2 more weeks.Sounds like more commitment than any other area in the east that I have seen.
