On Launchpad (as per Facebook).

A couple weeks behind last year's date, but awesome!

Guys, this will be lift served if I am not mistaken?

Also, they are not counting out the possib. of some top to bottom skiing:

"Robert West: if weather remains good why just LaunchPad? Let's do Top to Bottom!
about an hour ago · Like ·"

Response from the mountain:

"Mount Snow: Robert anything's possible.
about an hour ago · Like · 3 people · "

I've been waiting to hear about Launch Pad opening up, I was surprised it wasn't sooner.

Skiing is skiing in my book, but many here will tell you that it doesn't count. ;)

If it is lift served, I will put an hour+ in, and count it as a day. Just from a conditioning standpoint, it will be worth it!

Agreed, if I were closer and had a pass I'd give it a spin. Well maybe not this year with Killington being open already, but you know what I mean. I'm sure the jibbers love it though.

Should have it by the weekend, although per their FB/Twitter update this AM, the temps didn't quite drop as much as they were hoping all the way to the base last night, so they were only able to make snow on the upper mountain last night.

With the forcast for the next couple of days though, the fanguns *should* be able to be running for enough hours all the way to the base to make it happen. Top to bottom?? My guess, based on what they're saying (and the GM's new blog entry posted this AM) is that top to bottom is more likely "penciled in" weather permitting for the following weekend

Would they open the northface area with downloading like they did a few years back, or do they just wait for T2B now?

They haven't official said that they wouldn't open the Northface 1st and download *but* the way that management has talked about it, my guess is that it would have to be a very specific set of cirumstances for them to actually open with a downloading scenario now instead of maybe waiting slightly longer to open top to bottom

BTW, with respect to this year, the only trails they've talked about snowmaking wise have been on the Main face

They have stated they will only do T2B - although I asked this very question on their Board. A few years ago when they did a run down the NF w/downloading there were plenty of people. I wish they would entertain the thought again.

Very cool. We need to head over to have my wife's new skis mounted. Looks like I'll be bringing mine and make a few turns with the kids in da park.

Jeff...this time we'll cordinate better. And if you're in any pics...it'll be on purpose...not "Oh crap! Is that Jeff and kids back there?"

It would be very sweet if they could get some top to bottom open soon. I know they are pretty firm on top to bottom, edge to edge for opening. But they did mention that would be on the main face...so I "guess" there's a possibility of something on the North Face first?

One of my favorite first days of the season was at Snow when they opened with the Northface only. Waiting in line to download kinda sucked, but it was still a great day. The snow on the Northface was awesome!

While I don't have any confirmation of this, based on the last few years opening plans, they usually like to have a park at Carinthia open for opening day. Since I haven't heard them say any of the Carinthia trails yet in the plans for snowmaking, and knowing that they were a couple of weeks ago working on replacing the water supply pipe that draws water from the pond at Haystack (which is the water source for the Carinthia side of their snowmaking system), I'm just speculating that the pipe work isn't quite done yet, and that ideally they'd like to wait, hopefully just a short amount of time, to get that all set up and have Carinthia inplay for opening day

No complaints with me there!

They seem to be wavering now re: Launchpad for the weekend. They have been making snow up top, however, and said that Launchpad will have some hikeable jibbing this week.

They're actually opening up the park on launch pad THIS AFTERNOON for some free hike to jibbing.

My guess still though is for this weekend, they'll just have the park on Launch Pad for a lift served soft opening, with lots of big whales of snow around the rest of the mountain, and then go for the "real" opening next Saturday the 13th

Check the webcams. They actually had a decent amount on the lower part of Standard.

Jeff,
Since we'll be "in the neighborhood"....I'm going to bring my skis over and maybe hike for a few turns. Gotta get Melissa's skis dropped of first to get mounted...that's priority....

Glenn, lower standard does look good cover wise, but the summit cam is showing that the top 1/2 of Cascade hasn't gotten much love from the air/water guns yet, and that good snowmaking window is shrinking by the minute before the storm and what ever type of precip rolls in.

I'd be guessing that if they were really ging to make a go at opening more than just a small park this weekend, that they would have started the top part of Cascade by now. I'm fine with that, since it means that NEXT weekend, I'll more than likely get to make a bunch of turns on Sunday before I sit down on the couch and watch the Patriots beat the Steelers! :)

Oh snap! Vince may not like that post!

He actually just let me know that the snow report says they're making snow on Grommet. How about a few beers at the soon to be snow bar whilst I make a fool out of myself Saturday evening in the mini terrain park?

Glenn, I've got just the thing to make sure that the Brewtender is working fine! The 1st selection for you're grommet refreshment will be a little darker than what was in the Brewtender at the end of last season :)

Their refusal to start with the NF was probably the primary reason I decided not to buy a pass this year. I tend to ski MS mostly at the beginning and end of the season, with the lack of commitment to opening early or closing late, it doesn't make sense for me to buy a pass. I don't blame then though, they should do whatever works best for them. They kinda tried the early/late thing for a couple years and I guess it didn't fly. It's too bad though, with the NF and downloading I think they have one of the best possible setups for early season.
