Resort or Ski Area: Mount Sunapee
Conditions: Variable. Groomed loose granular with some ungroomed man made. They were making snow on several trails during the day to freshen them up. Temps were low single teens when we arrived, low 20s when we left.
Trip Report: Got on the hill at about 9:30, pretty good for us given that it's about a 3 hour drive. Started on the blues off the main high speed quad (Bonanza, Skyway Ledges, Chipmunk, Byway, Hansen Chase, Lower Blast Off). Where fresh snow hadn't been made the surfaces were machine groomed granular -- edgeable but noisy. Fresh man made on some runs. We then went into the Sunbowl and made some runs on the Wing Dings, Skyway, and Lift Line. I thought surface conditions were better in the Sunbowl -- quieter and less granular. As crowds built on the main blues we moved over to the North Peak Triple. Lynx had lots of soft, freshly made snow. I thought Goose Bumps was the run of the day; it's steeper than what I can ski with any grace but the snow was excellent and there was almost nobody skiing it. Many of the main blues were very crowded during the busy part of the day and became pretty skied off. Crowds in the Sunapee Lodge were very bad. Left the slopes at about 3:55, just before the lifts closed. All told, a very good day.
