Resort or Ski Area: Mount Sunapee, NH
Conditions: Machine Groomed Packed Powder
My first time at this mountain; went up Thursday night with some buddies (one of whom has a house up there), and were on the high-speed quad at 9 a.m. It was a cold morning, temp around 10*F and very overcast at first. Pretty windy near the top too.
Started with a couple of warm-ups, Bonanza to Hansen Chase - beautiful hero snow, fairly firm but extremely edgeable and quick. Took Skyway over to Sunbowl a few times, excellent all over. The sun came out soon after and it made a big difference - still cold but comfortable now, and it really helped eliminate the flat light we had the first few runs.
Took the North Peak Triple for some runs down Goose Bumps and Lynx - Goose Bumps was probably my favorite of the day, had no traffic throughout and conditions remained wonderful right till the end.
Made some runs down Blast Off which was really nice, Bonanza to Chipmunk, back to Sunbowl for a few and ended the day with a couple of runs down Goose Bumps again.
I was very impressed with the conditions, Sunapee has done a great job maintaining a very skiable base over most of the mountain and only a few parts were skied off and thin by early afternoon. Nice variety of trails, some great cruisers - looks like a place that you can count for on the best conditions in a variable season such as this one.
One of my best days skiing this season, certainly helped by the fact that I'd just picked up my new Vokls that morning
