Last night we were invited up to Mount Tremblant the week of February 16. Can anyone offer up info on the area? I would consider myself a high intermediate. The others in the group will be 3 intermediates, and one novice. Any recommendations on North vs South side? Which lifts or area to focus on? My goal is to spend 80% of the time cruising with the group? For the remainder I would like to branch off from the group to find some more challenging stuff but end up in the same lift area. Restaurants? Quality of child care at the resort? We are all set with lodging.

I can't give you too much detail, but in general the resort should be very good for intermediate cruising. They make a lot of snow and groom a lot. The south side is the main base and where the base village is, and has more terrain. North is probably less crowded. North probably has the most challenging trails (Dynamite in particular, which was closed when I was there; also Expo), but has cruising trails too. The Edge is also geared toward experts/glades I believe. Le Soleil might have some trails to your liking. The lift you'd probably use the least would be The Edge (long and slow unless it has been replaced, and probably not the terrain you are most interested in). Otherwise any other lift would have something to your liking. There is a triple chair I believe at the top of the mountain going toward the north side that would allow for some laps on cruising terrain and which from my experience doesn't get crowded. You probably can handle basically any of the single diamonds there, as they are generally groomed, and are not especially difficult compared to northern VT.

Over the weekend the mountain will probably get very crowded. That might be the time to avoid the main lifts at South. Otherwise I think you should be OK.

The base village is full of restaurants; there is also a lodge at the top of the mountain. I don't know about day care personally, but I'd imagine a resort with such a huge amount of amenities would be well-equipped in that area.

Oh man... I have skied 3 weeks on 3 separate occasions in Tremblant, although it has been a while since i have been up there.

I do remember the front side, the one under the gondola, having som really great high speed, steep and wide cruisers. I think Tremblant and especially the front side has some superb super G high energy and speed carving terrain - probably the best I have seen on the east coast. Although some of their runs, even though not particularly bumpy, can get very steep and tough for intermediates to rail carving turns on - think Superstar Headwall type of steepness but 2 or 3 times longer.

The weather is brutal, at least when I was there, the front side gets hammered pretty bad up top. I remember trying to ski down the trail that leads to Kandahar and being stopped by the wind that was blowing up the mountain - the wind creates a bunch of ice.

The south side has some trees, I have skied at least 2 or 3 runs/glades there if memory serves, but I don't remember them being particularly challenging or memorable.

So to summarize my skiing experience: Cold, cold, cold, windy weather. Ok snow (mostly man made) and very good grooming. Lots of black and double black runs to scream down making wide superG acrs.

The lodging and food is pretty nice. The accommodations/dollar are awesome. You can get very nice, large, near luxury condos for a big group to stay in for pretty cheap. This might have changed a little big with the weak dollar (been 3 years since I have visited). The food is pretty good, but mostly its very cookie cutter. That really is the biggest beef with the ski town and the surroundings - it all feels fake and manufactured - no character at all.

Thats all I can say about this place, but I suspect there are people on the boards that can provide a much more indepth and more recent review of the hill. Good luck. Definitely a place worth visiting at least once - some people just fall in love and keep going back.

If conditions are like when I was there...get a real good tuneup and I mean sharp. It's a big place with a lot to explore, and some nice bump runs. We went from frozen solid to spring conditions in 3 days. And don't forget to sample some of the great local brews in the village. Just don't try to ski afterwards. upwards of 9% alcohol.

Sharp edges, check.

I downed a 4 pack of Dogfish Head 90 min IPA last night. Great stuff and also sports 9%.

There "was" a guy who used to haunt the RSN forums...JamesBond007. He used to post quite a bit on Tremblant's page till they dumped RSN. Anyway, he subsequently generated his own site for chat..Tremblantinsider.com I think.

He seemed to give very clear reports on conditions. Friendly guy.

Enjoy

My all time favorite beer! The Raison D'etre is also great.

I've really enjoyed all of the Dogfish Heads I've tried. We have a tiny liquor store less than a mile away that has an amazing selection of beers.

we've skied Tremblant 4 out of the last 5 years. You will find an array of trails on which intermediates can explore. We prefer the north side. Each chair has at least one green / blue way down. Also they really groom the place. Most of the blacks are not exceptionally challenging however there are a couple that are note worthy. The family will love the village. I recommend the following:

a) Passports
b) Either start early (8:30AM) or late (10:30am) as the lift lines on the south side get really long between 9:00 and 10:00.
c) The North Side always feels less crowded than the south side.
d) Eat lunch early or late but not at NOON
e) If you are staying in the village, you will have lots of flexibility as you can generally ski right to most accommodations so if members of party want to stop then they can head home.
f) Mondays and Tuesdays of that week will be the less crowded.
g) Also there are lots of places to ski that you will see on the way to Tremblant. A lot of these places won't have lift lines that week and could provide you with a nice change of place.
h) Beware that they start to shut trails down early so plan accordingly

http://www.tremblant-insider.com/ That's it Sky, but don't forget the (-).

People bash the place all the time as a posers mountain, etc., but my family and I had a good time there the one week we went.

I'm looking forward to it. Although we have the place from Saturday to Saturday we will probably only ski Sun, Mon, Tues before heading back. If we are lucky maybe Wednesday. Can't beat the midweek skiing.
