Mt. Carrigain
Date Hiked- July 23
Trails Used- Signal Ridge Trail
Distance- 10 miles
Difficulty - Moderate to strenuous
Conditions- Trail relatively dry with a few muddy spots on the lower half. A few stream crossings along the bottom, but they have rocks to hop across.
Report- We started at 9:45 from Sawyer River Road. There were several nice views of Whiteface Brook along lower 3/4 miles of the trail. After 3 or 4 stream crosses, the trail flattens out for about 3/4 of a mile. At the intersection of the Carrigain Notch trail there is another stream crossing (Carrigain Brook).
Shortly after the brook the trail climbs moderately for the 2.5 miles or so to Signal Ridge. We arrived atop of Signal Ridge at 12:20.
Unfortunately for us, we stopped ten minutes below the ridge for lunch. I could wait any longer.
From the ridge it was just 2/3 of a mile or so the top. We arrived atop the fire tower at 12:45.
There were alot of people on the tower we hung out on a nice mossy spot 500 ft or so below the tower. Then we went back to Signal Ridge to snap a few more shots of Mount Lowell. We left Signal Ridge around 1:20.
On the way back to the car we stopped and played in a few water holes for 45 minutes or so.
We missed the best one (it has a nice cascade)because some other hikers were playing in it and we didn't want to bother them.
We ended up back at the car around 4:30.
