The family went up to Sherbrooke in Quebec province on 12/27. We stayed over in a small hotel in Sherbrooke and got a good start to the area. Mt. Orford skiis on basically three peaks, but they claim four "faces". Unfortunately, one of the faces, which includes a triple, was closed and so were its trails. The balance of the area was open. They apparently have an abundance of snowmaking but still was crusty. Everyone knows that each area's green, blue and diamonds are slightly more or less difficult than another's. However, these blue were definitely closer to diamonds than anything else, sort of like those at Mad River Glen,Vt. We ended up staying on the greens and had an enjoyable time. That was, up until the end of the day. During my years of skiing, I've never had any trouble with equipment dissapearing. At about 4:15, we put our skiis up on the racks outside the base lodge and searched for the rest of our family. Within ten minutes, we returned to pick up our equipment and head for the car. Wait, where are my skiis and poles???? I was so angry while I filed the stolen ski report at the security office. Fortunately, most everyone up there speaks passable English so that I didn't get anymore upset than I was. Then I started thinking about the deductible I would have to pay to buy another pair of skiis........ Word to the wise, from the newly wiser, pair your skiis up with another's and separate them in another rack a decent distance away. I'd go back, but would rather try out Mt. Saint Anne just outside of Quebec City next time.

Sorry to here that your skis were stolen at Orford. I have been skiing there for years and never had a problem. I actually felt like my stuff was safe there. Now I will make sure I keep things locked. Did you ride the new Hybrid lift? I am hoping to in a couple of weeks.

The peak you were refering to was Mont Giroux. There is a quad from the base lodge and at the top of that you can see the other lift. It was not running while I was there back on the weekend of the 12th.

The hotel I stayed at in Sherbrooke (Goveneur's) is closing for good on 1/16/04...no more comps!!! Which property did you stay at while in Sherbrooke?
