Date Skied: Dec. 12, 2009
Resort or Ski Area: Mt. Peter, Warwick, NY
Conditions: Great conditions: Soft machine made and groomed snow.
Trip Report: Today was opening day at Mt. Peter and it was also opening day for my season. Finally! It was the first local area to open and I found out last night, after they updated their website, that they were opening today so I had to go. I hadn't been able to get out yet this season obviously because of the warm weather coupled my wife's and my work schedules this month not allowing me to take a day trip to the Catskills or Poconos.
The mountain was open from 12:00 to 4:00 today but I had errands to do earlier today so I pulled into the parking lot at 2:10 and clicked into my skis at 2:20. Mt. Peter is only 400' vertical so it's all pretty easy but I decided to start off with a green for my first run of the season. I took Upper and Lower Rim Run just to get my ski legs back. My next run was Cedar Lane, a blue, to Lower Rim Run. Then I hit the blue St. Pete's and next Dynamite, a black.
I pretty much alternated St. Pete's and Dynamite for the rest of the day. I skied non stop from 2:20 until 4:05. They said they were closing at four but I got my last chair at 4:02 and a couple of people got chairs behind me. I ended with Cedar Lane to Lower Rim Run because it's easier to ski to the lodge off Rim Run. The longest lift line was about 3 minutes. The snow was all soft machine made snow and the guns were blowing the whole time I was there. The last few days had been lows in the teens and highs in the 20's and low 30's so there was no freeze-thaw cycles and the snow was great. My car said it was 34 when I pulled in the lot. I was just so stoked to be skiing I wished they were open for another few hours.
Here are a few pictures:
These two pictures looking up the hill have the trail Dynamite on the right.
I don't know why the lift tower looks bent in this picture because it obviously wasn't, I guess my phone did that to the image.
