Date(s) Hiked: July 20, 2006

Trails(s) Hiked: Sunrise Loop at the Sunrise Visitor Center

Total Distance: 1.5 miles.

Difficulty: Easy

Conditions: Dry

Weather: Sunny at 7pm temp around 80 degrees.

Special Required Equipment: Shoes and a water bottle.

Trip Report: Since: I had the opportunity to go out to the Seattle area for a few days with two afternoons free and I decided that I wanted to get as close to Mt Rainier as I could on one of those days. Fortunately I picked Thursday, which was the start of the “heat wave” out here. I thought nothing of the 84 degree temperature in Tukwila, WA (near Boeing) where I was staying. Friday was 104 degrees, no humidity.

There is not much to report about the hike as it was very simple with an elevation gain of 300 feet making my total elevation at 6700 feet. That is the highest that I have been with my feet planted on the ground. The 20th was also my birthday, and one thing I always wanted to see was snow on that day. Well I saw it!

I was just in awe every time I saw Rainier or any of the mountains. I have some pictures of my trip.

As I was leaving I took a picture of this summit. They told me it was Mt Adams:
