Trip Report:

I am almost too tired to write this, but here goes... what a day. Snow Report said 3 inches of new snow. It ended up being over 6 in most places.

Parked at Carinthia instead of Sundance today and was on Nitro at ten minutes to 9. First run was down Mine Shaft to Iron Run. While the freshies were temping, under the powder was some heavy crust from the sleet. Hopefully with time it would get chopped up by the masses.

Rode Nitro up again and bailed down Milky Way over to Sunbrook wanting to hit the Dippers. Up Sunbrook... If Peak Resorts does nothing but replace this lift, I will be overjoyous. It is just a painful ride.... Big Dipper hasn't been patrolled yet, so was still reserved.... with more than enough cover, Big Dipper is a classic. Lots of places to duck into the woods as well. As much I wanted to hit more on Sunbrook, I couldn't take 3 rides up Sunbrook in a row, so I rode it once and poled my way over to the Main Face. There I would try Exhibition (Tramline), Ledge, Choke, and Lodge. All awesome... Singles line on the Summit Quad went fast. While riding up I kept eying a Sundance Triple that kept starting and stopping. By the last trip up I saw people on the lift and down South Bowl I went. Hopped on Sundance (by the way this lift has a traditional ASC paintjob: rust with a hint of grey paint) and this area would be the best of the day by far. The masses had chopped up the classic natural runs over there, but there is so much you never had to worry about hitting anything. Shootout would prove to be the best, under the lift. Then I took Hop, Cut-Off, Uncles, and Fantasticks trees (a little bony, but okay). All of these runs were just awesome...

At this point I was exhausted and hungry so I hooked a right on Sweet 16 and went back to my truck at Carinthia for some lunch. After I had warmed up and eaten I was back on Nitro... back down to Sunbrook, up Sunbrook and over to the North Face... First stop would be Olympic from the very top (only accessed from Sunbrook) to The Trials. Although skied out, the Trials are awesome. There are a bunch of great lines in there, just keep going in. Next run would be Olympic itself. Skied off at the top but still awesome. Did Challenger, Plummet, and Jaws of Death next. Last run on the North Face would prove to be something. I went down Committed to Ripcord, to find it closed. Interesting.. me and another fellow shook our heads and ducked the rope together...Couldn't understand why. Top was so good... foot of powder and soft bumps. Stopped at the headwall to catch my breath... At the bottom... was a patroller, waiting for people to come down. I stopped a few other skiers and pointed at him, and they bailed to Second Thoughts. I wasn't going to give up this run... I stared down for the better part of a half an hour, while this guy stared up. Finally, he skied off..... down I went. As always I took the side and the fresh made this run insane...

At this point with over 20 runs under my belt... I was exhausted. Rode up Outpost and I boogied for Sunbrook and Little Dipper. What a change from last week when these trails were windblown clean.... up Beartrap, down to Titanium top to bottom. Always an awesome run. I would love to see them put snowmaking on the top eventually... Upper Nitro gets boring... anyway. That's it...

Crappy pictures in order: Ripcord (with patroller at bottom on left, lol), Big Dipper flats, Trials, Shootout, Olympic
