respectfully disagree with snowmaking on overbrook. burying that in manmade would would require grooming and would vailify it beyond recognition into a plain vanilla canyon like trail.

one gun at the bottom of OMT would be nice to bury the waterbar that keeps vail from opening that for "safety"

MS needs less vail effect, not more.
I agree, no snowmaking on Overbrook. I'd do all of OMT though. Just no widening.

No Ripcord 2 of the last 3 years.
Very close right now, on natural, per a patroller I was with in my crew tonight... We'll see if she is right soon.. As she's had her cross for over a decade now, I give plenty of trust to her opinion

It was open on natural a good amount when I was young. Even it good snoe years it doesn't seem like we get as much though.

Pretty quiet here today. Grand Summit is ski on every time we've been over there.

Very quiet today. Probably 1/2 to 2/3rds of a typical Saturday crowd, and with most every trail open and all the lifts running, lines were quite short

It's been so cold lately that everybody decided to take a warm weather trip for Presidents week.

Great day, going to Bershire East tomorrow.

Sat 2/21 - largest crowd of the season. 6" new dense snow. lifts ran. Rope drop on ripcord. I opted out. When I skied by on committed 3 ski school groups - around 20 kids, were dropping in. I had just finished a long session on northface was heading back and the there was freezing drizzle going on so cruddy visibility so moved on. never heard how it skied.

I caught the rope drop on Ripcord along with about a dozen other people. It was fun for a few hours, I think I got 4 laps on it. I can't imagine it holding up to heavy traffic, especially on skier's right, but maybe with the snow coming in it will be open a few more days this week.

Nope, was opened all on natural.... Was close per a patroller friend of mine the last few weeks, but finally got enough this past weekend to safely open
safely open ??? by my count it has been open a day and a half total - it has been closed all week this week despite another 12 inches of snow this week..

Some weird grooming decisions given the quality of snow that has been holding up..

They groomed Jaws overnight. It was skied off pretty quick. Interesting decision on that.

Per a patroller who was at my condo tonight, Jaws got groomed because the irregularities of how the bumps formed on the multiple fall lines made it very difficult/impossible to safely get a toboggan down should they have to...

And there very well could a rope drop on Ripcord again tomorrow

Just read Sundance/Sunbrook lift operations ceasing Sunday 3/29 (not operating mid next week either) Think you can still lap SB to BearTrap?
Summitt cafe closing 3/22 (F&B consolidates to Base and Carinthia cafes)
Ski/Ride school done 3/29

Looks like great weather for ReggaeFest this weekend though!

doubt it. They push snow to the summit unload area from thanks walt. the little entrances all along the summit will be closed. shooting star from LJ will be closed. btw, today was an almost corn day - froze overnight and warmed up by 11am - good snow but not quite corn. rain arrived 2pm and doesn't cool until morning - but not below freezing

correction - it got below freezing late morning on 3/21. As such, I waited until 9:30 to head out. Still too early. Place was cold this morning with a freezing fog up top. Then, at 11am just as pond skim commenced, sun burnt thru and we got a pretty nice, coldish, spring ski day.

Lots of moisture on Friday overnite and the snow surface is saturated with ice flows in a lot of places after freezing this morning. At 11:15 went searching for softening snow. Found it at sunbrook which was down to 1 main run, the thanks walt / cloud nine route. Took bear trap to get out and quickly realized it was fully soft cornish snow. A few laps on that 370 vert gem (Vail castrated bear trap - used to have nice big bumps with music blaring and plenty of snow made on it - now a shadow of what it once was) but a great rejunivator for me today. Carinthia was full on soft - almost too much - more mushy. Tried Northface thinking it had softened. Nope. Fun day skiing. It was pond skim and reggae fest so big crowd at the base with Vail cutting back staff = shit show for your apres scene. Band was good - should have smuggled in refreshments. Vail should consider opening an hour late and letting lifts run til 5pm on these big spring event weekends - would have been fun with the good band to go to 5pm and 8-9am was a total throw away. This wouldn't fit the Vail template, so it will never happen.
