Resort or Ski Area: Mt. Sunapee, NH

Conditions: Couple inches of fresh over groomed

Trip Report: Took one run down Bonanza. Groomed with some fresh to soften it up. Opened up some huuuuuge GS turns at the top. These Twisters just love to go fast! Hit the little section of bumps on Chipmunk. Yummy, like a squirrel looking for a nut.

Took four runs on Flying Goose. They only got a reported 3 inches from yesterdays "storm", but it was the perfect consistency for softening up the bumps. Very impressed, considering how bad they were on Monday.

They didn't have the "freestyle skills required" sign up yet, so I mixed in two runs in the terrain park. They have quite a few rails and jumps set up (along with hip music to really get you going) and a big stump at the bottom. Too bad I can't jib.

I wasn't there for Sundays goodness. Based on the video, I would say today wasn't as good. The light was pretty flat as well.

Plus bumps aren't quite the same without someone to share the fun.

Going to make it this coming sunday? I might free up again.

I was there last sunday, didn't know 2knee and crew was there until close to the last run. Pat is skiing way different than in the past.... hands and the A&E is unreconizable.

I can't make it on Sunday. I'm pretty much worthless on the weekends.

as opposed to what on weekdays?

we need to get a good crew up there when all you guys are around. although, based on what i saw sunday, i think weekdays would be much more preferable. the line for the north peak triple wasnt bad but the amount of cars there was downright scary. there had to be big lines somewhere.

Usually the high speed quad (services the summit) gets the long lines. They have plenty of trails that fan out down the mountain. When trails in the bowl open, the lines can get long over there.

One of the reasons the triple didn't get the lines (this past sunday) was that some of the trails were not opened. They had whales on goose bump (trail on the left side when riding up the triple), once it opens, it will cause some wait. Having said that, the times when all lifts and trails are opened, the lines at the triple are usaully the shortest.

I go to Sunapee on Sundays...in the past, if we got there early, we'd get a good parking spot and the lines for the HSQ would be tolerable until about 12:00. Sunapee has a discounted ticket on Sunday afternoons for NH residents, so after 12:00 they get a bunch of people and the lines for the HSQ and the South Peak beginner area get long.

I have found that even on busy days most people avoid the North Peak Triple because it services "black" trails...even though I don't ski bumps yet, I like going on the triple and doing laps on Lynx and runs down Goosebumps if it is open.

yeah i was kinda eyeballing that run next door. looked like it wouldve made a good little poach but no point cause the bumps were so good. Chris also said you guys have some decent trees provided there is natural. to be honest, i was surprised how big the place looked. it kinda wraps around the whole bowl area. definitely will get back.

based on the accents i heard, showing up in a Favre jersey probably wouldnt be the best idea.

ok that explains alot. we got there right around noon and people were streaming in. it seemed odd to me and then the lady at the ticket counter was asking everyone if they were NH residents.

one totally cool thing though was we bought a 1/2 day ticket and it was actually discounted. what a novel idea. $46 instead of $66. alot of places give you like $5 off for a half day. thought that was pretty cool.

I should be there again on Sunday. By the way, the line for the North Peak was hit and miss on the length. I took the Duckling chair and skiied Eggbeater and by the time I got back down it was short again. Also, was it me or were the chairs stopping alot on Sunday. My last ride on the the North Peak stopped four times.

Making my first trip to Sunapee tomorrow, appreciate the beta above on conditions and potential crowd-avoidance strategies. Planning to get there first thing in the a.m., skiing my cojones off in the a.m. and not worrying about whatever happens in the afternoon.

One question I have is re their grooming practices. Their interactive map indicates they groom pretty much everything that will be open. Current NWS forecast is for 4-8" with most of it probably falling overnight; please tell me they'll leave some trails for freshies, or at least won't groom edge-to-edge on every trail. I'd take PMs if anyone is willing to share any secrets ... any jackpots repaid in beer if you're there tomorrow ;-)

Also curious folks' thoughts on whether any of the woods might be open if they do get say at least 6-8". Seems Sunapee didn't get as much snow earlier in the week as some other places like in VT so I'm unclear just how much natural base they have.

Thanks in advance
