Searching for accommodations near Cannon, I came upon the Kinsman Lodge B&B. I emailed the owner and was quoted a price of $64, which includes breakfast. I figured I'd miss breakfast leaving early for first tracks. Then I read a "negative" review of the Kinsman's, the poster was complaining that the owner stopped serving breakfast early so she could be at Cannon at opening. That's all I needed to know. Turns out Sue is a volunteer for the kid's race program at Cannon. When I arrived Sue informed me that I could have a room with two twin beads for $45 per night. What a deal! The only thing I don't like is I don't have a TV in my room, none of them do. There is a den downstairs with a flat screen, however, and wi-fi for the whole place. The no TV would bug me if it were more than a one night's stay. Glad I chose them, Mittersill is right out the back window, a little foggy today, not much to see.

I did some consulting for a couple B&B's not to long ago.

They tend to be used by a different type of client as opposed to a normal hotel. Lots of seniors looking for that certain "feel", which candidly seems to be "make me a part of your family, with all the clout of the eldest generation".

Tongue in cheek comments aside, I think they can be a great option for the ski crowd, espeically if one tends to be the ski all day then crash hard at night type. Not the best for long stays, but you'll get a much more VIP experience per say compared to the standard crash motel.

I like the fact the owners are both avid skiers, that makes me feel at home more than anything. There's only one other tenant here, I'm sure it'd be more like the Waltons when full...good night John Boy.

In the shadow of the moon.
The trouble with B&Bs is there is no standard; they range from very posh Inn's with a private entance, to a spare room in a simple ranch house. It's a crap shoot.

So far the experience has been great, Sue and Chet are both great. I think my experience is skewed since there is only me and one other guest. I had the den to myself for a little TV, PTI, TWC, and a Nat Geo program on Hashish! Felt a little self conscious watching that one. Sue came and asked me if I wanted some coffee or tea. I sat at the kitchen table with her and she told me stories of skiing Cannon when there were only t-bars, and the tram. I asked her if she knew Bode Miller, she had remembered him as a child. She then gave me a signed copy of "A History of Cannon Mountain", by Megan Mc Carthy Mc Phaul. I'm not a reader, but with no TV in my room, it was appreciated, cool read prior to skiing Cannon my first time. Looking forward to a home cooked breakfast before heading out in the morning. One caveat, my cheap room is in the half of the house where the heat is not so hot, a complaint I read in reviews. We'll see how chilly it gets overnight, no ice in my toilet, like some other places I've stayed. A lot warmer than your car in -10° weather, eh Scotty.

+ 1, but sounds like this is working out really nicely. And that is a good book on Cannon.

Yes, it was, for the most part, an interesting read. I was unaware of Cannon's storied past, even learned why it's called Cannon. Very cool to have the opportunity to read it the night before skiing there for the first time.

I can see why staying at B&B's is a crap shoot, I'd say I lucked out on this one. No ice in my toilet this morning, may not have even noticed if I weren't told. I guess if I had a thermostat, I probably would have turned it up a tad. I downloaded an app that somehow is supposed to read ambient temperature, but couldn't get it to work, I'm guessing 65° now, not uncomfortable at all. It was a relatively mild night, 33° now. If it were colder, it may have been a different story. Almost time for breakfast, yum! I would stay here again if I ski Cannon in the future.

Sounds like a good place, have fun at Cannon, I was always there once and it was a bad weather day, I really like to try the place again.
