Took a lot of motivation to head out today, but I had a few hours available around noon. Luckily the rain broke just in time and I had no rain at all during the ride! Sweet! The trails were obviously wet, but the leaf cover acted as a bit of protection from chewing them up too bad and I rode trails that I know drain well.

Got started out of Scoville around 12:45. Took the cemetery twisties and once at the DT stayed on it to the Devil's Kitchen bypass. It was warm this afternoon and humid as hell. I was sweating like crazy. Made my way over to Stone Road. Just before crossing, near the area where the trail towards the Kitchen peels off, I spooked a huge whitetail. Crossed Stone on the Tunxis and part way up I heard a shot. Not in the direction of the deer though. I had bright red on, but still felt uneasy.

Rode around Stone for a while and heard another shot. I decided to high tail it out of there before some good ole boy mistook me for an animal despite my bright red shirt. Heard a few more shots as I left the area. Headed back towards the top of the Cornwall climb. Never rode the trail in that direction, nor have I rode down the stretch we normally climb. Fun stuff. I took the last steep short techy stretch right down the blue (the stretch we always go around). Pretty tricky but rideable; tough given the wet leaves today though.

Took the cemetery twisties back to the car and got back around 2:45 so I logged 8.74 miles in less than two hours. Not bad! Here's the Crankfire record.

I got home and soaped up and rinsed the bike, lubed the chain and shifted the drivetrain to the smallest gears and decided to call it a season. Lift serviced skiing starts for me on Friday. After today's ride, I crossed the 300 mile mark, finishing the season at 305 miles so I'm thrilled.

 I went out and looked at my bike yesterday and realized that I never cleaned it off after the last ride. It also had a flat tire, which made me sad. :(
