I've been battling a head cold since Saturday. Woke up this morning with all sorts of congestion in my lungs and head so I decided to stay home. Not one to wallow in my sickness, I decided to take a MTB ride to clear this crap out! On a whim, I PM'd Grassi who I thought might be working from home. He was and had been since early morning so he decided to join me. I officially did my first RIOW (ride instead of work) and Chris pulled an RDW (ride during work).
We met at Lamson at 11:30 and quickly headed out. After my first pedal stroke I was mysteriously feeling better. Awesome day to ride - cool, cloudy and windy. Felt very late fall-like and refreshing. We headed into the cemetery twisties. I finally cleared that entire stretch of techy riding at the end of them in one pass. Psyched! I think the cold kep me at a slower and steadier pace and was able to keep from getting too winded.
We did the basic loop. Nice and breezy at the top of the ridge reminding us that winter is on its way. Chris was killing it and riding well. He seemed to really dig the Cornwall downhill. We took the bypass around the washed out down hill right before the little bridge. Paralleled 69 back. Took that log ladder roller stunt thing and Chris tried it too. Came to a complete stop on it and took a Superman launch off it to land on both feet. Again, 10 for the sticking the landing. We also took the little loop to the narrow A frame and roller area. Chris also jumped off the bike at the top of the A frame, but he backed up and did it again. Once at the Scoville twisties, we hit the wider A frame to double drops. I hit all three, but landed front wheel first on the drops. I went up the hill and did them again, but flew off the first drop to the left and jumped off the bike. I had enough at that point. Got back to the lot in exactly 2 hours covering 6.46 miles.
Awesome ride and I felt great during it. As soon as I got in the car, the nose started running and a dry cough creeped back in. Took a hot shower when I got home to warm the bones and now the congestion is back on in full force. Should have just ridden all day, I guess. At least I'll sleep better tonight than I have been. Good riding with ya, Chris!
