Ok so I'm 15 and have been skiing for about 5 years, I am not great but I can deff hold my own. I have Salomon 1080 thrusters, and I love them. Since my dad can't take me skiing every weekend I do a trip to Ragged Mountain every weekend with the Y :( , now before you start bashing me because it's a small mountain, its not my fault I just need to ski. Well recently I have been looking into Whistler/Blackcomb and there is nowhere I would want to ski more than there. I go to sunday river about once a year, but I figure Whistler is supposed to be amazing and I am trying to convince my dad to take me there. Anyone here gone to WhistlerBlackcomb before? If so could you tell me how you liked it, and I need some tips to convince my dad
Thanks
Glad to be at this site

I haven't been to Whistler but know people who go there every year. I have gone to Lake Louise and Sunshine Village though. The thing about these trips is that they are faaaaaar. It takes an entire day to get to them. It took me 20 hours from NY. Transfers, layovers, then the car ride. The weather can be pretty freaky also. If you want to try big mountain skiing, try Utah. It's a direct flight, about 5 hours. Depending on where you stay you can be within 1/2 hour from the slopes. It also has better snow, as in powder compared to heavy, wet. Not to say Whistler doesn't have the goods. It's probably one of the best places on earth, just tough to get to. Utah is a lot cheaper also. Might be an easier sell.

Whistler/Blackcomb are great... Awesome terrain - iffy weather - close to the ocean.. Had a blast there.

I've move inland for my riding now.. I like the interior British Columbia mountains..

A) Ragged is one of the coolest mountains of its size. No bashing here. They just need more snow. Feb & March storms can be be generous to that area.

B) Not sure how you'll convince your dad.

C) Have you done Cannon yet?

Pretty cool vid from jan. 18 at kicking horse.
They got another foot in the past 2 days too. Finally a good year for the interior...
Hopefully the snow keeps up, I'll be there in 3 weeks.

ragged is a rad little place, I skied there a few times in the mid 90s and had a blast. one day I was there during a huge nor' easter and no one was at the place I remember my tracks filling in run after run. a few steep shots too, I also remember getting kicked out of the snowboard park. I could definatly think of worse places to ski and they probably don't kick skiers out of the park anymore.

as for whistler, I was there 9 years ago and it was super radical. I remember getting there and it was raining at the base and we were bumbed, but went up the first lift and it was a hammering pow day. the terrain is crazy too, all kinds of meat hucks and steep ass lines that you have to air into. its been awhile, but I remember the spankys ladder area on blackcomb and the high alpine of whistler to be the coolest areas. they are getting nailed with snow this year too.

jsp332 welcome to the boards! I hope you give us some reports from Ragged cuz Ragged rocks! I'd ski Ragged over Loon or Waterville anyday(esp. weekends  ).
I've never been to Whistler personally but have researched going. Points you might bring up to your dad may be is it's close proximity to airports, completely inclusive village, two mountains with a vertical drop of over a mile  , they have tons of snow now so you can actually ski the whole vert, the US dollar is a bit stronger than the Canadian dollar and you'll mow the lawn twice a week and take out the garbage for the next 25 years.

Fortunately for me, I have family in WA state, and have been to Whistler/Blackcomb. Absolutely wonderful...when the weather cooperates. The weather there makes rain and fog a problem like here in the east. I was socked-in for an entire week's vacation there once (the only time I was going to try heli-skiing) and even though the village is great, the trip was a washout.

Frankly, next time I go west, I will be inland and at higher elevation...It's just too much money to spend to not have as reliable conditions as are possible. In cold, dry weather, Whistler has it all. In fog and rain, you will wish you went to Utah. 8)

Utah. You fly into Salt Lake City. You are 40 minutes from pretty much all the resorts except the northern ones which are an hour away. The best ones are Alta, Snowbird, and Solitude. I like the Canyons in Park city too. Up north you got Snowbasin, And Powder Mountain. You need a car up north so this adds to the expense. If you stay near Little Cotton Wood Canyon you can use the buses to get you to Alta, etc. This is the cheapest big mountain skiing possible. I do it twice a year plus 1 more trip somewhere else. Utah always is the best.

For direct flights, you could get to either Salt Lake or Denver. Salt Lake is much closer to the Utah resorts than Denver is to the Colorado resorts, though. Still, Winter Park in Colorado is a great hill, fairly close to Denver, and quite affordable.
