"These are not your typical Okemo trails," says Okemo Mountain Resort VP of Operations Barry Tucker. "Offering some of the steepest pitch at Jackson Gore, they have lots of character with natural outcroppings and contours to enhance the way these trails will ski."

Might be worth a look this season.

That's great. I was wondering when they were going to open those other trails. I always start my Okemo day at Jackson Gore (the few times I go there during the season). It definitely has the best concentration of interesting terrain (for Okemo) plus way less crowds.

Supernova is a great run through the trees at Jackson Gore:

Plus you guys would like the seeded bumps over there - Big Bang:

This is probably one of the new trails they'll be opening this season:

Okemo can be good if you know where to go. Jackson Gore is definitely one of the better places to go:

this elicits nothing more than a yawn from this observer.

I wouldn't expect any less from you, or in this case, more...

I stand by my assessment that Okemo gets beat up on a bit unnecessarily. I had fun ripping bumps with other AZers there in early April. Others are harder to please apparently.

"Offering some of the steepest pitch at Jackson Gore,..."

"Tucker thinks the new trails will be rated double black diamond. One of the new trails will measure about 1,000-feet long and the other will be about 2,600-feet long. The latter will have a vertical drop of 850 feet. "

Watch out for those double blacks that are steep at 18.8 degrees (34%)

I [Hart] Supernova, it is a blast of a tree run. Typical Okemo fashion, not hard but F.U.N.!

I agree 100% with your assesment greg. I've been to Okemo 4 times, and had fun every time. The conditions were always good....even when others werent. I just dont understand how you cant have fun there....your skiing for christs sake, so what if its not "corbets"?

Okemo is roughly 2:40 for me, very day trippable and there is some good terrain there. Outrage on the South Face is really nice, and the seeded bump runs are fantastic. The Narrows offers some fun intermediate challenge. Looks like there is also a lot of stuff at JG that would interest me too. I'll definitely make a point to hit Okemo a few times this season. Is it MRG? Not at all, but it's still a good day trip option for me, on par with Mount Snow. My only complaint still is having to take the quads up to the main mountain.

I've skied the listed two "rough cut" trails before, and they are more of the same. They are much shorter than the rest over there as well...I think Jackson Gore is terrible.

I think the South Face is the only decent skiing on the mountain.

I'd have to agree. There are some fun trails, and some fun unmarked runs, that you can make a day out of. Runs like Outrage, Loose Spruce, Stump Jumper, Forest Bump, Sel's Choice, Double Diamond, Big Bang, etc... don't get that much traffic because of the majority of the clientèle that ski there. I ski it one or twice a year because I don't have to pay full price. If I had to pay full price, I might choose other options. But there's no denying that it's still a fun day.

Although there are a varying opinions on Okemo, you have to be giving them credit for opening up some new terrain. If you know where to look, there is plenty for most types of sliders. If you are skiing with family, which is their target market, you can't beat the diversity. I'll admit it is a bit on the pricey side, but I always manage to find a discount. I typically ski there 4-8 days a season.

Jackson Gore isn't Jackson Hole and the 'main mountain' of Okemo will never be confused with Mad River Glen. I ski Okemo seven or eight times a year and enjoy most of the vists for two reasons: if I'm at Okemo generally there isn't much natural snow and Okemo makes plenty of snow and I don't pay full price. My gripes about Okemo aside from steepness are: it tracks out quickly after natural snow fall and it can get really crowded. I do think Jackson Gore offers a good alternate base to start the ski day and Jackson Gore offers some respite from the main area when the crowds build at the main lifts.

I ski at Okemo about 20 times a year. The top 80 yards of this new trail will be decently steep. I hope they don't mess it up by over grooming. This will also open up a few tree slots. I have looked everywhere at Okemo. Its a struggle to make it a good expert day. You can ski a lot of trees not on the map. The hardest one is an area between the South Face Chair and Double Diamond. A few spots where you can't miss turns. The power lines skiers left of Outrage is good also.

used to ski that section you are referring to regularly during HS back when I was at Okemo 80+ days a season. This was pre south face days and my buddy Jeff and I were the ONLY ones skiing it. We just decided to start poking around off of Rimrock one day and viola, some decent slots through the woods. Seriously, NO ONE skied off map at Okemo back in the early 90's. Cool to hear that people are starting to do so today despite it's lack of pitch.

i cant help but laugh at the people who still mock okemo for being easy. Its like pointing out that the sun will rise every f%^kin day. I think we all know that. I couldnt ski okemo everyday of a season and be entertained. I can ski there a few times a year and have a blast. If someone goes there alot and enjoys it, good for them. wtf is with mocking people for where they ski? Sometimes this sh*t feels like high school.
