Event: New Riders of the Purple Sage Concert at the Lebanon Opera House (NH)
Date: November 17, 2006
Report: Bob R had mentioned earlier this week that he was coming up to the Upper Valley to go to the New Rider's Concert. He was nice enough to invite Trailboss. His mission: broaden TB's horizons. What he did not know: in college, TB had a lot of Phish, Grateful Dead, and other good tunes on his computer
We met for the pre-concert warm up at Lebanon's Salt Hill Pub. We chatted about skiing and life and had some brews and wings. Man those wings were hot. My thanks for Bob for the  TB owes him.
So we headed out about 7pm and made final preparations for the trip in great music. Bob had managed to get great seats in the Orchestra Level (Row O).
The opening act featured Burlington's The Kind Buds, which highlighted the great acoustics of the venue. Their show was pretty good.
After a short intermission, the New Riders came out to an psyched crowd. The first set included some great tunes...as Bob had said, it was a mix of country, rock, psychadelic, and just good vibes. About ten minutes into the set, Bob leaned over and said, "I've got to go...be back." I figured that he was heading back to the bathroom or something, but within a few seconds I caught a short, tie-dye clad man jamming over in the side aisle!
Yep, Bob R was grooving to the beats with some other folks. These guys had good tunes and really made you want to move.
During the second intermission, we headed to Salt Hill for a quick drink. I met some of Bob's friends from 'Dead Tours and the slopes. Friendly folks.
The second set started out pretty mellow, but eventually folks got back up for some grooving. "Panama Red" sent many into the aisles. It was a great show, letting out at about 11:45pm. They had a good sound with great guitar sounds mixed with pedal steel guitar.
I did pick up a CD set of one of their recent concerts. Yes, I'll admit that I now have some new ski tunes. I was listening to the CD on the way home.
And I conclude by saying BeanoNYC put it in May, "a gig with Bob R is an event not to be missed."
