Also the most likely given boyne record of real estate driven expansion and the seemingly endless market in lincoln. South peak is currently using "westward trail expansion' in their marketing material. Also of note are the two trails sketched in between south and loon proper.
I wonder why the low connector hasn't been built yet? I had no idea about that. Just assumed the topography wasn't there for it. Seems to especially make sense to have in order to get from the Kanc to South.

Yeah remote is all relative. Especially looking at it from an eastern perspective. I have to agree that I-80 west of SLC to this new area is pretty damn desolate compared to driving from SLC to Jackson or even Big Sky. The routes from SLC to Jackson have towns with services at relatively close distances.

A little more than half the drive from SLC to Big Sky is on I-15 through significant population centers. After leaving Rexburg, you still have 3 or 4 towns before West Yellowstone. The most remote aspect is the last 45 minutes (40ish miles) from West Yellowstone to Big Sky. Compare that to the probably close to 75-100 miles of nothing from Tooele to Wendover, and then even more from Wendover to the Ruby Mountains (save Elko and Battle Mountain).

So IMHO, as it currently stands, the drive to this new area involves more travel through more remote and desolate areas with little or no services at all.
But its wicked easy driving that goes fast. A quick stop in Wendover or Wells for gas/snacks/beer/weed and you're riht back on the highway crushing miles.

Also - Elko Regional Airport (Elv 5140ft) has a 7454ft x 150ft runway that can handle some 737 sized aircraft. That would allow for direct flights from major metro areas if the there was demand.
Yes, but there is currently nothing there facility-wise up to handling routine traffic that size. A lot of $$$ would have to be poured in, that won't happen fast unless the developer is absolutely loaded.

It's Nevada. Put in a Casino. Draw all those Salt Lakers (including the LDS) to a closer "Sin City" then Vegas. Turns and Gambling,, perfect together.

Just kidding.
Plus hookers and weed.

There is a major drainage (almost a ravine) between West Pod and South Peak. Likely will need a skier bridge to traverse it.

So similar situation as Attitash? The Kanc to South route would really spread out the crowds better. Having to ski down to the Gondola or North Peak and to the transfer lift is kind of a pain.

A lot of people are surprised by this... $30-$40 round trip flights SLC-LAS!!
I used to take the 6 am LAS to SLC flight back when day of arrival skiing was free. $29-39. Even with the hour time difference we could be skiing by 10 or so. We always went to Deer Valley on day of the flight.

Yes, and the way South was drawn up, the terrain below Tote Road is not on the operating permits with the NFS as well I believe. So they have to cross that proverbial bridge first before bridging the gap. Ha!!

Not sure how many "NEW" Ski resorts are being planned but one might be closer then expected in the future. A Long Overdue Ski Resort is Finally Being Planned in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada!

This place truly looks amazing. Wish them good luck working with a refurbed 1988 vintage detach that was notoriously troublesome when operating at Sunshine Village.

Deer Valley Opens First Phase Of New Terrain Expansion

On New Year’s Eve, Deer Valley Resort opened the first phase of its East Village expansion. This included the grand opening of the Keetley Express and Aurora chairlifts.
Park City, Utah — Deer Valley’s Expanded Excellence era has officially begun.
On New Year’s Eve, Deer Valley Resort opened the first phase of its East Village expansion. This included the grand opening of the Keetley Express and Aurora chairlifts. The Keetley Express is Deer Valley’s first bubble chairlift. The Doppelmayr bubble chairlift seats six and features very comfy heated seats. It gives skiers access to the Mayflower and Sultan Express chairlifts. The Aurora fixed-grip quad chairlift mainly serves as a connector for those trying to get back to the East Village. However, it also services a couple of smaller trails.
While it didn’t all open yesterday, this expansion adds 300 acres of new skiable terrain. The terrain expansion totals 20 new runs, which includes an extension of the McHenery piste. These runs are of beginner and intermediate variety. This expansion includes a few new runs that start from the top of Bald Mountain and connect to Deer Valley’s East Village. The third new chairlift, the Hoodoo Express, is scheduled to open sometime this season. This chairlift services Prospect, a beginner run that will become a new learning area for Deer Valley. After that, six more lifts will open next winter, including a massive gondola with ten-person cabins. That phase will add nearly 100 new runs and 700 more parking spaces in the East Village. When fully complete, Deer Valley will have 238 trails and 37 lifts.

Might have a better chance getting NFS approval to extend the off load high enough for the Kanc to access the Tote Road Connector lift.
