Date(s) Hiked: 8/8

Trails(s) Hiked: Noonmark, ADKs

Total Distance: ~about 6.5

Difficulty: moderate but steeper toward the top

Conditions: Sunny, dry

Special Required Equipment: None

Started from the Ausable Club, the trail was about as well a maintained trail as I've ever been on. As you approach the summit there are many opportunities for views of Giant and surrounding peaks, just beautiful. Great views from the summit. Here's a pix of Dix from Noonmark -

At 3,500 ft, plus Noonmark isn't a High Peak, but a great hike and view none the less.

We dicided to go back toward Round Pound and turn toward Round Mt. and head back to the Ausable Club, big mistake. Trail was not maintained half as well and zero views. It was ok, but after coming up from the other side it was a big let down.

That's a great hike isn't it HPD? I haven't done it in a while but it's definitely a "bonus mountain" (our term for "little effort/great views"). There's a few of 'em around there. Hopkins across 73 from there for instance or Big Crow and the Nun-de-go-ho Ridge right up the road in Keene (and also on the other side of 73).

Them slides on Dix are skiable I've been told.

ChileMass,

Yes, you have to go, similar but different to Whites. Many of the peaks have slides on them making the views quite dramatic.

I do most of my hiking in NH but try to get to the High Peaks once a year. I have to think I like the Whites more since I make the effort to get there more but I really enjoy that occasional trip to the ADK's.

Nice pick & TR HPD

The Whites surely rock but beacuse of the Forever Wild Clause in NY's Constitution and the APA, the Daks are more pristine and untrammelled. For instance, the huts in the Whites (which are waaay cool- don't get me wrong) would never be allowed in the Daks. Plus the ADK Park is far bigger than the White Mountains NF. Lots more to do. YMMV.
