Anyone ever been to Alyeska. If my Union doesn't go on strike Dec 31 I'm thinking of flying up there. 250 inches so far and the flights are under $500.00. The whole thing seems like a good deal, about the same as going out west. Any inside info would be cool.

Not sure if this will still hold true for your visit, but a poster over at TGR said that he was allowed to go up to the head of the lift line because patrol saw that he was wearing his avy equipment. Apparently there have been a few in-bounds slides and patrol there is trying to encourage people to bring beacons and tranceivers, even in-bounds.

Never been but it seems to be a sick resort. Tram, base lodge is at or near sea level, and you get the best "lake effect" east of Japan.

I pretty much carry a transceiver in bounds at every place i ride out west...
And I borrow and extra for whoever I'm skiing with that day..

I use a Tracker by BCA..
http://www.bcaccess.com/bca_products/tracker/index.php

Of course each tranceiver has it's good points and bad... But I tried a bunch at an avi course and thought this was the easiest..

Some of my friends use the Tracker as well.. A couple use Pieps which don't have all the bells and wistles but are work really well too just not as intuitive... We tend to keep the Pieps for ourselves and give the Trackers to the less experienced..

I've been there, but not to ski. It was a quick stop to and from other stops on my honeymoon. We took the tram up, and there were still people hiking the road up to ski on what was left above the tram. Great views of Turnagain Arm from just outside the tram station. The terrain the tram goes up over is pretty steep stuff. I'd love to see it in the winter.

If you're staying in Girdwood, be sure to hit up The Bake Shop. Great little place for breakfast.

Thanx. Their site says that snowfall is over 120 inches ABOVE normal for the season. I would imagine this is the reason for the high avy danger.
