ha!! What a find!! Some absolutely classic quotes in that,

"When you get skiers and snowboarders together on a run, you're looking for trouble"

"Even if snowboarding is just another California fad, the people who work on the local ski hills say 'one season, is one too many'"

"If these boards become more popular, it's gonna be more hassles, more confrontations, so we'd just like to say that we don't want them at all."

Especially amusing in light of the fact that snowboarding has sustained most of the appreciable growth in snowsports over the past 20 years. Always funny to hear that stuff with hindsight.

HAHA!!! we are smart alecs...

It's been quite a ride(no pun intended) over the last couple decades...
How often do you have an oppurtunity to start a sport that is JUST starting out and be part of it's evolution from what was to the mainstream sport that it is now?

If I compare the stuff I was using when I first started to what I have now... I'd go nuts...

Then:sorel boots with ski boot liners
Now: high tech waterproof boots with built in spikes for walking on ice

Then: Bindings with bales that would pop if you turned too hard and set onto the board by drilling..
Now: lightweight bindings, stepins, totally adjustable, no bales...

Then: boards were floppy but heavy, lots of asymetrical boards
Now: lightweight, sturdy, asym characteristics built in to a symetrical deck...

Then: not really accepted by jerky skiiers
Now: not really accepted by jerky skiiers

Once you start telemarking it's tough to wash the stink off... :)

Funny... I think about telemarking all the time.. I really can't wait to do it again...
It's become my mellow adiction...

What’s with the newswoman saying that snowboarding started in California? I thought Burton started it at Flatton.

Yep. Those guys in the film were riding on Burton Boards. I think if you go to the Burton site, you see that Jake Burton got his inspiration from seeing other folks doing it... :-?

The origins of snowboarding are incredibly cloudy... all Burton claims is that Jake was one of the original pioneers, which he was... others were also big early on, such as Tom Sims (who was in CA)...
