So I was at the airport yesterday and saw the mag on the rack. "Master MOGULS" caught my eye. So what the hang...$4 bucks while I wait for the plane.

I was unimpressed with the article.

I have a lot more confidence in what I read in "The All Mountain Skier" book! AMS's instructions and drills can be followed. Ski Mag's insructions....aren't as good (is the nice way to put it).

Anyone missing the "gene" for mogul skiing (like me)would do well to get the AMS book and cruise the mogul section. Excellent "starter" section with clear guidance on how to transition the described method from starter to advanced. Then all you need to do is find some moguls that are easy enough to practice on. (Greg recommends Loon).

I usually don't pick things up well by reading. I'm better at seeing it and trying to emulate it.

It ticks me off that the ski rags hit book stores before they are delivered to subscribers.

I get both SKI and SKIING. I have a lot of backissues of SKIING and have noticed as of late that many of the articles I have seen or read before...or at least they seem that way :-? I get so sick of reading the Eastern Articles and having to go around the Whistler insert that is placed in that section...talk about adding insult to injury...I mean really, skiing in the east is one thing, but sticking Whistler in the middle of it is another

So I read it mainly for entertainment and the occasional good eastern article or two...I'm liking SKI better. But both are almost the same and have almost the same articles in them

How about POWDER?

I find that Ski and Skiing are pretty similar to Golf and Golf Digest -- Mostly ads interspersed with descriptions of destination resorts and recycled "how to" articles. Often, the instructional tips seem contradictory (I know they often are in the golf rags). I peruse Ski and Skiing cause I'm a sucker but I wouldn't rely on either for meaningful instruction.

What happened to Freeskiier Magazine. I just read an old copy from 2003 with Glen Plake on the cover. It has an article that says that lifts remaining unused on US Forest land for a period of two years are required to be taken down...Wildcat better stay open if sold.

My book is meant to equip expert skiers

As for watching and emulating HPD...congrats. Sometimes I can do that. More frequently, I need to know the "why" behind something so I can address the answer with my own abilities/limitations without busting some portion of the "what's required" envelope.
Sky, I didn’t mean that I thought I had a skill, I’ve always have been a visual learner. Often when I read without seeing I can’t make the jump to doing.

No worries pal. Nothing inferred in my response...nothing but respect for you/your posts.

I agree that some folks have that ability to see and do. I envy it. I have to work at my skills...and being this tall and obvious on the slopes...I am extremely concenred with looking like an uncoordinated stiff. Guess I never outgrew that childhood fear.

It's funny that after years of reading fishing mags...and How to sections with help from the Pros...and how they inevitably leave out the actual "how to"...that finally I recognize when the "how to" section actually "vacuums". *smirk*

Great photos in this Ski Mag. Inspirational...ust what we all need this time of the season....the No Skiing Season. :<

It's all good.

....on all the ad meets recycled how to - put the huge sucker stamp on my forehead, and the "kick me" paper taped to my back.

But then there's the occassional pleasant surprise. I think Skiing has detailed ski area maps and some photos with Alpental backcountry routes marked and described, skiing some Chutes at Jackson (photo with marked routes and descriptions). Or was it freeskier, or powder, or backcountry.

Anyways, I love the maps, photos, route information part of ski magazines best.

Same here, except I mostly just look at the pictures and put it down. I'll read some of the articles if I have some spare time (not often) and am bored...
