The AZ Sundown bump crew will get a kick out of this one. I received this Email from the mountain ops guy at Sundown:

Greg,

Trough Maintenance. Gotta love it!

That rocks. Speaking of rocks, I hope they cover that trough/rock on NE.

NICE!!!! See, they really take care of you guys! :D

This was on the website, too:
MESSAGE FROM MOUNTAIN OPERATIONS: "We knew it was coming....this typical January thaw. When temperatures were low last week snowmaking operations ran round the clock for 96 continuous hours. Currently there are over 100 reserved piles of snow on the mountain, still waiting to be distributed and groomed into existing surfaces (as needed). 100% of our terrain is now open and 100% of our terrain will be open for the weekend."

The bumps survived!

Got an Email from Chris Sullivan indicating the bumps "survived". More props to Sundown for leaving them in place. Most mountains with a limited number of trails like Sundown would whack them down. Sunday night/Monday's snow should put them right back into great shape!

I called Severine this morning at like 10 to ask her if she could post that I saw that the bumps survived. I was kinda disappointed to hear that Greg scooped me... ;)

I wish I got a chance to ski them, but damn work got in the way as usual... The Ex bumps looked decent from the lift. There was a bit of brown mixed in, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the troughs were shot. I'm sure the snow has been brown for a while, even if they keep filling the troughs in like they were this morning. Chris told me that he went up and filled in the troughs on Nor'easter himself on Wednesday afternoon. Got em covered good from what he said, using a patented technique involving just the right application of rock salt and... well I've said too much already..

I skied the bumps on Nor'Easter on Tues night (before & after my race runs on Gunny) & they were still in reasonably good shape. There was very little brown/dirt in the troughs (at least that I saw). Then again, I only did 3 runs on Nor'Easter all night so I can't say for sure.

I also realize that Tues night was virtually an eternity ago as far as the conditions go.

Mogul Update

According to Chris Sullivan, the Exhibition bumps will be rebuilt on Thursday night. Apparently, they will be two rows wider and 100’ longer! They would also like to reseed Nor'easter as the bumps are getting whacky with the snowmaking piles adding up. They would prefer to do that conjunction with a natural snow fall though.

Any reworking they do will probably happen after they close, I'd imagine.
