Has anyone skiied Okemo recently or know someone who has? I'm thinking about shooting up there for some spring skiing but don't want to make the 3 hr. trip if the conditions aren't worth it. Also, does anyone know their closing date?

re: Conditions...I was there two weeks ago and the snow @ the base was pretty soft, but the trails (at least the ones on the upper mountian and over towrads Jackson Gore) were firm nad edge to edge.

The good thing (ok, one of many good things?) about Okemo is the lift set up. You can ski the upper mountain and stay on available firmer snow. Jackso Gore was is great shape two weeks ago...but the lower section of Tuckered Out (the green slope to skier's left) was very soft and muddy about half way down.

re: Closing...if you check their events calendar, it posts events right up to Easter (16 April). No mention of a closing date...but no events after that Sunday either. Bet on 16 Apr as a closing date for O.

Check out my trip report in the other forum for more info....and my album in the gallery for some pics.

I was there for the VSAA Ski Bums' Championship a week ago (Wednesday the 22nd), and they had a lot of terrain open and solid coverage on the trails I skied...but nothing in the woods or around the base area. A couple of trails were looking a little thin (i.e. the color of the snow was a bit darker than I'd have liked, suggesting stuff lurking underneath), but the conditions that day were more winter than spring--it was spring-like first thing in the morning but then clouds moved in, the snow cooled off, and stuff firmed up. I don't know what a week of sun would have done, though; a lot of the trails we skied were looking vulnerable.
