Resort: Okemo
Date Skied: 1/9/2007 9am - 1pm
Conditions:Sunshine, windy, later on cloudy and snowy. Fast, icy, with some LG and even pockets of powder during the snow
Trip Report: I had taken a few random days off in January and February, and this was one of them. I got lucky it wasn't yesterday's weather, rainy and blech. First time at Okemo, and I was a bit disheartened by the lack of ground cover, but they did the best with what they could.
Took the first chair up and headed over to the summit quad. Took a nice long run down and found it to be really solid hard pack with some ice poking through. The conditions were definitely variable as they were blowing snow over the hard pack, creating a nice mix.
The crowds were non existent, which was a great treat. I rode up the summit quad several times solo, with an empty chair either in front or behind me. After a few runs, the sun and skiers softened up the runs and they were alot of fun. Some pretty good size patches of ice towards the bottom, but that's to be expected. Overall, this was the best trip of the year so far. No crowds, bright sunshine for the morning, and it actually felt like winter (temp was about 8 at the summit with the wind chill)
Definitely want to head back when they get some more cover and experience more of the mountain.
