I kind of agree with Tinwoodsman here.. While I also agree with what others have said about Slokemo's snowmaking and grooming prowess, its overall terrain leaves a lot to be desired in my book. I've skied there a decent amount in the past (although granted before Jackson Gore), the terrain is just boring IMHO. To each his own of course. I'm not really a fan of their lift system, despite having HSQ's their base area situation and those little lifts to get up to the main ones are a nuisance.

Oh, and their supposed glades, like 2knees stated is totally laughable. Despite not having (or barely having) trees on them and, I think like 2kneess said, occasionally grooming them, they actually have snowmaking.

I know this has been debated before, but I like their lift set up - you don't have to deal with the normal base area messes when you want to load the main quads.

Our projected Opening Day is November 17, 2007...but stay tuned as it might be earlier!

They list some minor upgrades..

Counterpoint :argue:

Okemo is flat and boring.. I know

I'd like to hit Okemo for their opening weekend...they offer a quality early season product..and you can get mad steezy speed on their flat and boring trails....Belleayre is targeting the weekend before that on the 11th or so...I'll take Okemo anyday over KIllington early season..early in the season I don't want to get beat up...I just want to cruise and ease back into it..

Are there a lot of straight, boring trails at Okemo? Yes. Same with Mt. Snow, Stratton, et al. There's also some fun terrain there - ie Jackson Gore, the glades, Jolly Green Giant, etc.

When I'm skiing in Vermont and am concerned with conditions due to recent weather events, I go to Okemo, no questions asked. I've never had a bad day of skiing there.

Jolly green giant was as fun for me recently as it was when I was in 10th grade..what a cool run..

Gimmea a break the area has a boundary to boundary policy. The trails may be groomed to perfection but aside from whistler/narrows and the entrance to forest bump I've never seen any grooming in a glade area. There are a few skiers/riders who could care less for bumps(gasp). Okemo has two quality terrain parks and a half-pipe(or 2), and a bump run serviced by a fairly slow quad for you to turn laps on.

In addition to what Newpylong said......they might have a boundry to boundry policy, but unless I'm missing something, its just as flat in the woods as on the trails....

So I never did pay much attention to trail names, Double Diamond gets plowed not Forest Bump....and I guess you must be missing something, I always seem to have a good time there and have no reason to belittle the place.

to each his own, Ive had a great time anytime I've been there, They treat the kids well, town is nice as a traditional victorian town but not the over the top music video game nightmare like K-world.
It's not as rustic as the bush, or a secluded as Jay peak, but each of these mountains has something to offer the masses or they would not be in business.
The reality is Tim and Diane have put together a good product, took a basically defunct mountain and created one of the powerhouses of the the east-coast, by working with what they have and marketing it right. Sure it's "flat" but then again everything is relative....Its better than what I have in my back yard.

The only way Okemo is going to create steeper terrain is to use dynamite and blasting caps.
but then everyone here would be spewing all sorts of shit, piss and corruption because they tried to make steeper terrain by ruining some ancient moss...so which way do you want it?

We all know its a confidence boosting mountain, it's great for large groups or families because they have something for everybody, if you want steep and no grooming, go to Magic, If you want Sugarbush, go there, if you want Jay peak...go there, If you want to ski somewhere else, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SKI SOMEWHERE ELSE...simple as that and STF up already

but if you want to please everybody from the three year old nephew to your grandparents, go to Okemo.

And when the little restaurant in town doesn't have the Eggs Benedict after noon on a sunday, and you got there late because you forgot to set your clock forward, get up and walk out, get a shaws card buy a hero and case of beer..they wont care, your in Vermont and you can do what you want

steeze...whatever it is...its a long f'n sandwich

I think everyone here has some pent up aggression/angst and is dying for some snow so they can go ski/shred/ride or do cartwheels and somersaults down an incline...
