Slokemo's early "dominance" in the open acreage is homage to their impressive snowmaking powress and reinforces the fact that it's much easier to make snow on a football field in a meadow than on a mountaIn.

Too much hate in these forums lately. While the sarcastic remarks about Okemo and Bretton Woods often make me laugh, what's really the point of putting mountains down for the same things over and over again in a public forum?

Okemo did a nice job yesterday leaving a bunch of stuff untouched. Made for some nice early runs.

I did have one guy say to me while wiping his SUNGLASSES off "Man these are not typical Okemo conditions" as in it wasn't good, "I replied yeah I know it is Great!"

I may be a homer but I really do not get the hate for Okemo.

I don't get it, either. If you don't like the mountain is there really a need to bash it? There are far worse mountains, IMO, and you don't see them getting bashed like Okemo does.

To be honest some in this thread were praising to highly of how Okemo was so much better because they had so much more open so people take the other stand and defend the other mountains. (that was a run on sentence)

I don't think my post was too far off the mark. They do a good job blowing snow and the mountain is pretty flat and not steep. Granted I said it with some sarcasm.

It seems like the Okemo bashers are more hard core types that snub their noses to everything that does not challenge them! Therefore, BW, Cranmore, Mount Snow, Waterville, Sunapee etc. are always on the hit list. I can find enjoyment at every mountain. I feel blessed that I can get out and have fun on snow! Since my ACL tear, I have minimized my time on bumps so that is never a deciding factor!

This is spot on. I think Okemo smokes anything in the Poconos, is better then just about anything in the Berkshires, and with the exception of Plattekill crushes the Catskills.

Well I would say Hunter is way steeper and harder then Okemo, but It's all about different strokes for different folks. I laugh at the comments about the challenge because they are true, but I like practically everything I ski and that includes Okemo, Stratton, Mt Snow (all of which ski about the same to me) Loon and Bretton Woods. Heck even the Pocono's this past weekend was good skiing. I appreciate the steeps that many areas have but its not all about that to me. The wife had her knee repaired and for the most part enjoys groomed cord (she's ok with small bumps) and places like Okemo offer her miles and miles of that. Since she's my ski partner for life I'm very down with that and get to these places quite a bit. Happy wife, happy life.

This. My bashing had more to do with defending other mountains than just hating on Okemo. I don't really HATE it anyway. If I get a really good deal on a ticket or someone invites me up to their place in the area, I'm happy to go. But for my money, I'd rather go somewhere with more desireable (to me) terrain. I've had many good days at Okemo, but I do think the place is highly overrated.

I get that - I ski with my wife too, and the kids! She knows that we are all better then she is and makes not bones about it. Basically, when she gets tired she heads in for a Bloody Mary and the boys and I have fun on steeps or glades. Alternatively, if two trails merge further down, we will take different trails. Don't get me wrong, she will do steeps with us too but does not like bumps or scrapped off conditions! My wife happens to be an Okemo fan in fact she is an every mountain fan! My wife is our tour operator and will maximize our visits. So, yes Happy Wife, Happy Life!
